Dull skin

Can anyone recommend a good face mask for dry dull skin. You used to be able to buy single sachets of nice smelling creams to leave on for about 15 minutes then wash off, but looking round Boots I couldn't see any.

I had what was called a Hydradermie facial using Guinot products which are French. It certainly was enjoyable and was supposed to deep cleanse, re-hydrate and regenerate leaving the complexion healthy and glowing. Maybe I was expecting too much! I will check out Elemis though for another time.

I too walk home quickly Caz as I look horrendous without some 'slap'.

I had an Elemis Brilliance facial and I definitely saw a clearer, brighter skin. You may want to check out the ones available to you.

I had my facial yesterday and it was most enjoyable, lots of lovely products on my face, and a neck and shoulder massage which was wonderful. Thankfully I did not look red or blotchy afterwards , but I did feel uncomfortable walking home with no make up on. Today my skin looks and feels virtually the same as eve,r so I do wonder if it was worth the expense.

Sorry it is Rosannie - my mistake !

Roseanne I use the matching face powder which finishes off my make up nicely. Estée Lauder is expensive but as you say it lasts a long while.

I exfoliated (as recommended by GNs) and used a Liz Earle face mask last night and things are definitely looking better today.

I always remember my late Mum wore a little make up and dressed smartly up until the end, so I think that is why I try to make the best of myself.

Nankate I agree Double Wear is unbeatable for perking up the face! Its available in every tone so you don't need to look 'plastered'! It is quite expensive but lasts for ages. I wash it off with Dove soap and hot water, it works for me!

I can't find anything on the Web about this, so I'm not sure the woman was right...

Ana Tue 18-Mar-14 20:35:26

I don't know - they just said that the wrapping new toilets come in now have a label saying 'do not use bleach on this product'.

Tegan Tue 18-Mar-14 20:15:17

is it the toilets or the connecting pipework that's a problem?

JessM Tue 18-Mar-14 19:44:09

No I have ok skin thanks jings
toilets? what are they making them out of these days? specially delicate porcelain that reacts chemically with bleach????

Ana Tue 18-Mar-14 19:39:19

I heard on the radio today that you shouldn't use bleach in toilets - apparently all new ones have that advice on the packaging.

As most household cleaners contain bleach, what are we supposed to use?
Perhaps washing-up liquid or face cleanser? confused

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 18-Mar-14 19:19:49

I'm not advocating washing up liquid on your face. Just soap.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 18-Mar-14 19:18:56

Well if you've got enlarged pores from leaving the grease blocking 'em up, it's yer own fault. hmm

"Soap is a solvent". Wow! Amazing bit of science there.

annodomini Tue 18-Mar-14 19:10:32

Thanks Jess, for the scientific back-up! smile

harrigran Tue 18-Mar-14 18:14:47

Always used soap on my face, never been a problem but have always followed up with moisturiser.

JessM Tue 18-Mar-14 17:50:14

Soap is a solvent. It dissolved oils. Great for removing bacteria from hands. Haven't used it on face for decades. No need unless you have been stripping down and engine and got black grease all over face.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 18-Mar-14 17:14:31

Don't start that again! hmm

grin

Ana Tue 18-Mar-14 17:12:57

We need proof in the form of a recent photo of your glowing complexion, jingl! wink

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 18-Mar-14 17:10:37

There is probably a big difference between a good soap today and one we used fifty years ago. Although I always liked Lux. smile

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 18-Mar-14 17:07:55

Soap IS good anno. (So there!)

Don't massage it in for so long.

Galen Tue 18-Mar-14 16:24:40

As I can't reach my feet without dislocating a hip or two, a pedicure is a necessity rather than a luxury.

Nonu Tue 18-Mar-14 16:15:37

NAN smile

annodomini Tue 18-Mar-14 16:11:33

Soap is NOT good, *jingl. It removes the natural oils from the skin and leaves it feeling tight and dry. Well, that;s my experience. My mother wouldn't let us use anything but a hot flannel on our faces, but when I left home for university, I tried using soap. Big mistake. I got dreadful acne and bear the scars to this day. My favourite cleanser is Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser which smells wonderfully clean and leaves my face feeling cherished. For moisturising in summer I use the Body Shop vitamin C moisturiser with SPF 30 and never, nowadays, get a red nose on holiday!

Gally Tue 18-Mar-14 15:16:10

Caz You will love your facial - so relaxing.
A pedicure is just the loveliest thing to have - bliss. I always have one before going to Oz when the feet are on display all day and have another one while there. It's one of the luxuries I allow myself [blissful sigh emoticon]

cazthebookworm Tue 18-Mar-14 15:01:16

Galen I have never had a manicure or pedicure either, what have I been missing out on, and the hot stone massage sounds heavenly, I must get out and "do" more. Looking forward to firm glowing skin from the facial.
