Oh I remember mine. My mother went with me to Griffin and Spalding's where I tried on a Mary Quant grey A line pinafore dress. She quickly sketched the design and cut and we went to the market and bought a piece of grey flannel which my mother sewed into an excellent copy. Teamed with an aubergine 'sweater', white knee socks and back patent Mary Janes, I was the smartest lass in town.
