I was one of the last kids to be picked at school games and had absolutely no aptitude or interest in football or rugby. Coming from the North East originally, I often get asked if I'm Newcastle or Sunderland and say neither as it just doesn't interest me. Also the Euros will be something to avoid this summer as well, even the last ones when England reached the final, I just went out for a long walk.
OTOH I think nothing of going for a 10 mile walk, even in hot weather, and combined with a big reduction in my beer consumption since the lockdown, keeps my weight down. I love exercise, just can't stand watching most sports.

I'm not interested in watching sport!
(60 Posts)I cannot be enthused by tennis. There! I've said it! It amazes me how much the media is obsessed by Wimbledon.
I don't watch any sport. I'm just not a spectator. My late husband would watch absolutely any sport. He would probably have watched tiddly winks or shove halfpenny if they'd televised it! I just find it stultifying boring watching other people playing sport. I'd rather play it myself although probably not team sports.
I played tennis and hockey at school. I loved athletics and was a good runner. I train in Shotokan karate four times every week. I've played badminton, snooker and table tennis. I just can't be bothered to watch other people playing sport. It leaves me cold.
Over to you!

I do enjoy watching Wimbledon, swimming and athletics but I do not agree that all programmes have to be re-arranged for one specific event. I think there should be a separate sports channel and people not interested in sport will not be inconvenienced.
I've never been what you'd call sporty (more what you'd call the sort having a sneaky fag in the far reaches of the school field when I'd managed to get away with being a sub at hockey). But I enjoy following "our" teams in some big international events, such as the football world cups, and I absolutely love the Olympics. I've never seen the attraction of tennis, rugby, motorsport, golf, but each to their own. I wouldn't complain about the amount of sport on TV, any more than I would about the number of cooking/property/reality programmes - the production companies only show what the viewers want to watch and if the audiences weren't massive, these programmes wouldn't be on. DH watches a lot more sport than I do, but I can always catch up somehow with anything I miss, and there's always that massive pile of books waiting to be read..... It doesn't bother me enough to consider getting another TV anyway.
Absolutely not interested in any spectator sport, particularly if it involves balls! My husband and one son feel compelled to tell me how their team is doing even though they know I care not! I always remember when my son was aged about 8 or 9 and England got kicked out of a world cup, he threw himself prostrate on the floor with real tears
It's always beyond me how much some people care about sport! I get somewhat enthused about the Olympics especially when we hosted 2012, I did get almost carried away as the medals clocked up.
A hangover from childhood, my parents were absolutely glued to Wimbledon, I think we felt quite neglected, it never enthused me, I even had one set of grandparents live in Wimbledon although no where near the tennis, I did get dragged there once by a friend whose brother was a ball boy, it was lost on me. Worse than tennis as a spectator sport, is golf, my husband plays it, that I don't mind, but when he settles down to watch it, just so, so dull! not sure if a pulse is even required for such a purpose!
I’m not a sports fan, but when I knocked at my 80+ neighbour’s to ask if she’d like to go out for a morning coffee, she said no thank you, because she was watching the football. So I’ve still got time to become a fan. We like the Red Bull Soap Box challenge.
DH and I both loathe all sports
I've really enjoyed the cricket this summer, both men's and women's, Test matches and the short forms. But I'm following it while I do something else, rather than watching it avidly.
I had my favourite tennis players at Wimbledon, and found out when they were playing, put tennis on the TV while I kept tabs on the cricket via my tablet.
If I want to watch something to the exclusion of all else, I go and watch it at the venue.
Can't be bothered with watching any sport on television. I've never particularly liked team games. I do swim regularly though, and walk a lot.
When the Commonwealth Games were in Glasgow, we applied for tickets and what we got was athletics, which we had hoped for, and netball and gymnastics (the kind with the ribbons) which we hadn't. I found all of them really enjoyable when I was actually there and just not watching on a screen, but it hasn't made me want to watch any of them on TV since.
I love karate but I don't even watch that for entertainment. I will watch the occasional instructional karate video on YouTube but only to learn something. I admit I don't spend much time watching anything. My TV is virtually redundant. Oh! What a hypocrite! I'm watching the current series of the Great British Sewing Bee! (Mind you, it couldn't be described as sport although it is competitive to some extent.) I usually forget to watch it at the scheduled time because I'm doing sewing! 😂😅 I watch it on iPlayer days late!
I'm the same lizzypopbottle! It's utterly boring! Much better to get personally involved with an activity.
I let out a whoop when the Daniel Andrews announced today that Australia won't be hosting the Commonwealth Games; it's far more sensible to redirect the money to regional housing and sporting infrastructure.
Thank goodness Gardeners' World will be back in it's usual spot this Friday!
I also hate watching all sports (though happy to participate in some). What I also hate is that TV programs that I regularly watch get moved about to accommodate it!
Why can't they just have 1 or 2 Sports only channels and leave the regular programme schedules alone?
Some tennis is good. Fantastic men’s final last Sunday but generally, apart from horse racing which I love, most sport is a turn off for me.
We’re twins, NotSpaghetti!
I’ve just discovered some of our roads are going to be closed for four hours next month to accommodate a cycle race. That means I won’t be able to get out to get my GS from nursery that day - what I am supposed to do about that?? It annoys me when someone else’s sport infringes on other people.
Another gripe is armchair sports experts. So many friends, who last ran anywhere when they were in primary school, suddenly become all-knowing sports commentators on social media etc. 🤣
I enjoy football, athletics, even a bit of snooker. I’m with Gundy though, it’s a bit so what. I never watch soaps, which I know many people are addicted to, to my mind they are a depressing waste of time - and at least in sport somebody wins at the end.
Tennis, rugby union, golf, 20 20 cricket, athletics, cycling (TdF), I love it all! 😊
Absolutely bored by all sport. So glad when they are over and normal programmes don't keep getting delayed.
Our sport is racing to turn off the tv should any sport ever come on. For me, quite simply, sport is something you do, not something you watch.
I have always been physically active. I have been a swimmer and sailor in my time, but, as far as I am concerned watching someone take exercise, of any kind is ineffably boring.
Fine! You can be like that. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Many women are like that.
So your point was…? 🤷🏼♀️ You just wanted to get it off your chest?
It’s not going to change the nature of sports broadcasting any time soon since aggregated sports are a multi-gazillion $$$ and nation-loving industry.
Who doesn’t love a hometown team or Olympic favorite? Well, I guess not everyone. (I do have friends like that - they don’t get invited as much to certain gatherings… it can be fun!)
Gooooaalll!
USA Gundy
My Father in law even had 2 TVs side by side in the lounge so he could watch 2 channels at once which I found rather pathetic
😂😂😂
I personally think they put far too much sport on TV these days
I like some sport, not sport in general but I do think that BBC3 is a wasted channel and could be dedicated to sport.
It must be annoying when favourite programmes are taken off both BBC1 and BBC2 to make way for sporting events.
I’m of the same opinion as you Lizzy. I wasn’t brought up on sport nor TV for that matter as my parents preferred music. My DH shocked me the first year of marriage because of how much sport he watched. He’s the same as your DH was as in I’ve always said he’d watch ping pong if it was televised. I cannot stand even the sound of his horse racing or football, it drives me mad! Now he’s retired it’s even worse, he watches it all afternoon every afternoon mostly. The only sport I like is ice skating as I started skating at 4 years old until I was 17 when they closed the rink down. But my DH is a completely boring person because racing and football are the only subjects he can really talk to anyone about and as I’m not interested in any of it he’s learned over the years to not talk to me much or only about the news. Our DS is the same as me unfortunately for DH and shows no interest in sport only cars. I personally think they put far too much sport on TV these days. My Father in law even had 2 TVs side by side in the lounge so he could watch 2 channels at once which I found rather pathetic.
Not so surprising that many on GN are not keen on watching sport
❓️
Don't quite see why NanaDana...
My 99 year old mother-in-law is glued to the tennis and was excited to see that (in addition) there was also some major golf thing going on!
She hardly has any time for us at the moment #busybusybusy
I am not a Wimbledon fan either, can't abide the grunting and groaning when they play. I remember being abroad one year and going to restaurant and the waiter saying " this is a nice table you can watch the tennis on the TV" , I asked to be seated on the other side well away from it thank you.
I have attended live rugby match but more to say I have been to the stadium and seen a particular side.
