I first went to West Ham when I was under 5yrs old, grew up round football players/fans and I get really cross when those who have no interest/never been to a game become ^armchair experts^
I certainly wasn’t an ‘armchair expert.’ I was a terrified 14 year old girl working in a supermarket in the town centre, when these yobs , hundreds of them, ran through throwing missiles at people, shops, anything really. The police struggled to contain them.
You obviously had a different experience, and I’m glad for that, but it wasn’t the same for everyone. We always understood this hooliganism didn’t occur anywhere else in the world, except Britain.
Now, I’ve no real clue what it’s like, except my football fanatic son in law says it’s still around. Hard to imagine it happening at Wimbledon, or with the cricket!
