Let’s talk about cruise travel with NCL - £300 voucher to be won

The best way to see a lot of places in one holiday as you do most of the travelling whilst you are asleep. Cruising up the Fjords in daylight at three o'clock in the morning is an experience to be believed. I'd highly recommend getting a picture window if you do the Norwegian cruise so that you can lie in bed and watch the view by the midnight sun. Don't forget you travel clock because the light is very disorientating.

I have mixed feelings - I love a touch of luxury and I think they offer a relaxing and safe way to enjoy a snapshot of many different areas however I worry about being stuck with people I have nothing in common with. My suspicion is they are best suited to extroverts

I've never done one and it hasn't appealed in the past but I'm warming to the idea.

My parents have been on them and love them, but I like to take a bit more time to explore places

I love the principle of a cruise - visiting loads of different countries in one holiday - but in practice, I am terrified of open water and don't think I could bear to be on a boat for any prolonged period Which is a shame, as it pretty much rules out the idea!

I was lucky enough to win a cruise in 2012. I could never afford one & it was on my bucket list. I'm disabled so can't get about on holiday. The cruise was on the new Celebrity Silhouette which was amazing. The crew looked after us from start to finish, there was someone to collect me from the coach to take me in a wheelchair up to the deck where they brought us drinks while we waited until our cabin was ready then came back for us & took us to our gorgeous cabin. We were dining in the dining room where you didn't have a set time & couldn't normally book a table but, because of my mobility problems, they allowed me to have the same table each night & not to have to queue up to wait for a table. In the breakfast & lunchtime dining room the crew always came running up to carry a tray for me to choose what I wanted then carry it to a table for me, nothing was too much trouble. Most morning we had breakfast in bed & the guy who looked after us in our cabin was just brilliant, again nothing too much trouble. We'd bought a drinks package as it worked out much cheaper, there are several available for drinkers & non drinkers. We'd spoken to a couple who had been on many cruises & they were so helpful to us. Unfortunately I couldn't get off the ship to visit each place but it was nice to see the views from the ship & just relax round the pool which was very quiet as everyone else had got off the ship although there were always the same ones who stayed on board & I always had someone to chat to. The entertainment both day & night was fantastic so I couldn't recommend a cruise highly enough to anyone.

I've been on a short eco cruise and loved it. The more traditional cruises really don't appeal: the range of vegetarian and vegan food tends to be limited, cocktail dresses for drinks and dinner aren't my style and the entertainment isn't usually to my taste. That said, I think they are a great way to see the world.

Been on one cruise so far- an astronomy cruise to see the Northern Lights with Hurtegrutten. Loved the astronomy part but was bored. Friends have told us it wasn't a 'proper' cruise and to try again. What I didn't like was the crowding getting off the boat, the ridiculously expensive drinks packages and the lack of things to do. I liked the views, and seeing different places. The excursions were ridiculously expensive

I've only been on one cruise and that was years ago with my two boys who were 8 and 9 at the time. It was around the Mediterranean and it cost me an absolute fortune. We only went for a week and flew to Palma, Majorca to set sail. Unfortunately we had dreadful weather for two days and missed one of our port visits because of it. However, because of this, we were in Toulouse for Bastille Day and saw a wonderful fireworks display. I liked the options for eating - though we did eat too much. The entertainment was excellent with something to do at all times. Our cabin was very small even though I had paid for an upgrade and we definitely took far too much with us. I paid for an excursion on Malta which was costly and consisted of being rushed round multiple churches in intense heat with no stops. Total waste of money and morning in Malta. I would want more information on excursions before booking again. I would love to go again on a cruise but as a widow it is just too costly with all the single supplements.

I love cruising but always try to save money by booking the cheapest inside cabin. Very little time is spent in the cabin anyway.

The only slight disadvantage is not knowing what the weather is like, but you can usually see 'the view from the bridge' live on the cabin TV. When the screen shows the waves lashing against the bridge camera I'm relieved that I booked an inside!

I would love to cruise.
Whenever we go on holiday to the Greek islands we enjoy ferrying across to the very small ones to explore.
My main concern about cruising is the extra costs you hear about for excursions, tips, meals and drinks. I would like to see all information clearly laid out so you know exactly what is included in the basic cost and what is not.

Have been on several cruises both ocean and river and it is definitely the best way to see a number of places on one holiday. I don't however like being seated with the same people for meals and quite often after a busy day it is nice not to have to dine at a particular time so open dining options with the possibility of tables for two as well as large groups would always be my choice.

I absolutely love cruises, the best way to see places without the hastle of the airport take as much luggage on as you wish, All entertainment is catered for along woth fab food and the chance to push the boat out and dress up

I think cruises are wonderful. Being able to explore various places in the world whilst in the comfort of your cabin, brilliant!

I would like to do a river cruise, I think this would be a little less daunting but still a lovely way to see different places.

I've never been on a cruise but I love the idea! I'm the only driver in the family, so normally on our holidays I'm the one doing all the driving and the rest of the family is enjoying the views and relaxing. A cruise would be a great way for me to relax and enjoy the holiday too!

Its horses for courses, isn't it? All the reasons people are giving for cruising are all the reasons why I am unlikely to go on one.

not sure about being out at sea for so long

I have been on a couple of cruises. They are really informal now and it is great to wake up in a different place each day.

Love cruising, seeing all the sights with very little effort, good food and entertainment.

I personally wouldn't go on one as I do not have sea legs

I’ve never been on one, but open to the idea. They do at first glance seem expensive, but I understand you had to take into account the total package you are getting which often includes all your food and entertainment. I like the idea of getting a taster of lots of destinations that I might then want to go back to at a later date, but my biggest concern is all the food! I’ve got no willpower and a week surrounded by almost 24 hour food sound like I need to go on a diet before I get on the ship!

So many friends say a cruise is fabulous but I cannot believe you cannot feel the boat moving- I'm sure I'd be sea sick. And all those people! It's a quiet villa for me on dry land every time.

Never been on a cruise - keep getting tempted but worry about seasickness

sorry to say, but not for me/us at all. Hate being herded and told what to do and when. But mainly, environmental concerns is truly what will stop us from ever trying.
