My mother hated anything too obvious when using makeup. She felt subtle was best. I didn't always agree with her and in the 60s plastered on eyeliner, the darkest blue eyeshadow and mascara. However, I did follow her tip about not using soap to wash my face and neck and luckily I have been blessed with a good skin even at the age of 67. I eventually took heed and kept it simple and subtle. Just enhance what you've got was her mantra and I think that's a good tip for anyone. So, passed on were tips such as resting with cucumber on the eyelids to refresh the eyes and relieve any tiredness or swelling, use beer (for brunettes only!) for part of the rinsing process after hairwashing, apply moisturiser with as little perfume as possible, eat well, get plenty of sleep and smile.
