Climate Change

I don't know what's happening to the climate. We're told that the world is getting warmer and the ice is melting but the Antarctic ice is growing. Could this simply be a natural phenomenon? After all, Greenland is so called because when the Vikings discovered it, it was indeed a green land. The ice returned a couple of hundred years after they settled and all the Viking descendants died or left.

I have to admit I'm totally on the fence about this because I just can't make up my mind.

Well give all the data coming to us and evidence particularly in the hot climates then we would be idiot's not to err on the side of caution.

I know that the environment agency plans for the sea level rise and takes into account when planning flood defence and sea level rise.

If we accept that there is climate change due to man's activity, and the devastation it is already causing then we have to act.

If someone said 'Stop Polluting the Earth' - all nations must take action! - and everyone listened and acted then perhapswe may achieve something. The two may be linked of course, but:
The earth's climate has always varied, hot to cold, ice ages to semi-tropical, seas rising then falling as more ice melts and is formed. Was that man-made over millennia or to do with the variance in sun activity?

The Chineses drew a perfect map of Greenland's coastline in the 1400s, as vq points out it was a Green Land!

The day the earth's climate stops changing is the day the earth is a dead planet.

Now - Stop Pollution! That is what we should concentrate on.

Yes, we have to adapt to deal with it; there are many ancient cities under the sea because they were caught unawares and didn't have our knowledge - or perhaps they knew and moved to higher ground abandoning their cities to the sea.

Rosequ - your post echoes my thoughts exactly. There are many examples of how the climate has changed naturally over thousands of years. Pollution, now, is something we can take the blame for.

Well, I'm afraid I think it's a pipe dream now that places like India have found her industrial feet and are determined to mine and burn more coal than most of the rest of the world does. Their attitude is "so what? You've had your industrial revolution, now we're having ours and we're going to burn coal to fuel it whether you like it or not!"
