Not happy. In a kingdom of great cathedrals, I'm not very impressed with the choice of Christmas stamps depicting various cathedrals. Edinburgh - I'm not Scottish, I don't live there Armagh - I'm not Irish, I don't live there either Bangor - I'm not Welsh, I don't live there Westminster - I'm a Londoner, but NOT Roman Catholic Liverpool - I guess it will have to be that.
^They are quite attractive, I thought. I like the designs, but agree the choice of cathedrals is odd^ Yes, * Henetha*, the artist, Judy Joel has a studio in Mousehole. I think you call her paintings "naïve", being self-taught. The figures look a bit Lowry-like. She usually includes her white haired mum and dog in paintings, though maybe not in the stamp ones.
I’ll have to reread the OP when I’m not half asleep. Maybe I’ve misunderstood but the suggestion seems to be that although the theme is UK cathedrals there should just be English cathedrals in the selection of stamps 🤔
Frankly, I cannot see the problem. A cathedral from each of the constituent countries of the United Kingdom. As they are used on Christmas stamps, four is quite sufficient.
Whatever four were chosen, nobody would be satisfied because the choice would never be everybodies taste. As for objecting to Westminster cathedral, that rather smacks of religious prejudice.
At best this is a storm in a teacup, and a very small teacup at that.
I am as English as they come, but I think it is a good idea to have all four nations represented. However, I am surprised at the choice of Westminster Cathedral. I would have thought St. Paul’s might have been a more obvious choice. Of all the cathedrals in the country l love Norwich Cathedral the most. I am biased because I am originally from Norfolk, but it is a truly magnificent building. My other two favourites are Lichfield - the only one with three spires - and Chester.
I think it’s good to have cathedrals from all over the UK - and not to feature the usual suspects, lovely though they are, but some lesser known ones. My favourite, which isn’t a cathedral, would be Bath Abbey, because I love the ladders of angels on the front.
They look great & I like that all the nations are represented. If you’re genuinely upset about this, you really need to keep your mind busy with more important things.
