How old were you......?

I was 24 and he was 22 we've been together for 55 years.

I was 15, he was 21. Probably be illegal now but we’re still together. 57 years married.

I was almost 19, he was a year older. That was in 1978, and we're still together (married 44 years)

I was 17, he was 23 and he had just come back from Utah. He was my boyfriend's school friend. After 6 months, I ended the relationship because I knew that instead of the tall, dark and handsome, the short fat balding guy was the man for me. I proposed to him after 2 weeks of dating and that was 1983, still together.

Met the weekend I turned 15. He was 16. Married at 20. Celebrate our Golden wedding this year. Blissfully happy together ❤️

We were both 19 when we met and 21 when we married. We were married 55years before my beloved died.

Our youngest son met his future wife at school, they were engaged at 18 married at 21 and celebrate their 27th wedding anniversary this June.

My mother was 15 when she first met my father, although parental pressure and then the war meant they had to wait 9 years to get married. My daughter was 17 when she met her husband. Had to wait 6 years to get married for various reasons - like him living in America- but they've been married for 27 years now.

Maggiemaybe we got married in1975 tried to rent a flat to move into after the wedding and had several places tell us to "come back when you have a marriage certificate" that was Glasgow

So we both stayed with our parents until the wedding.We moved in with my parents and put our name on the council list when we got married and had a brand new 2 bedroom and boxroom end terrace with garage and back and front gardens ,central heating included in the rent just 3 weeks later.
Yes I know we were very lucky but there were maybe 1000 new homes being built at that time by the council and most folk we knew from school all moved in to the same area
.Was a great estate fun friendly community and it gave us the chance to start our own business without the worry of having to move within a time limit .We stayed 8 years before buying a flat

That's interesting M0nica. I haven't seen that.

I think the statistics show that people who live together before they marry have a higher divorce rate than those who do not lvie together.

I think that sometimes if a relationship is beginning to show cracks, marriage is seen as the solution, but f course it isn't.

Really lovely(again😀)! So many of you married young and still together!! I know of some young people who lived together for a few years,then married and a year or so later separated! Maybe moving in together with no real commitment "to get to know eachother"isn,t all it,s cracked up to be!

Met at 19 he was 20, engaged at two weeks and married after sixteen months. That was 54 yers ago!

We met at college - I was 17, he was 22. That seems so young now, but I knew at first sight that he was the one. We married when I was 22, and lived together for two years before that (nobody turned a hair - things had certainly changed by the early 70s). We’ve been together now for 52 years, have a wonderful family, and I feel very blessed.

We were in the same gang at secondary school - I was 15 he was 16. I know this sounds weird but I knew early on he was the one although I acted like he annoyed me all the time 😂. He was so like my dad who I adored. Eventually we got together when I was 17. Joint 21st and engagement party then married at 22. Mum wasn’t keen but two children (both happily married and living locally) and two grandchildren later we are still together. It’s been sparky at times, and we are chalk and cheese but we’ve been very lucky and made 47 mostly happy years!!

I was 17 and he was 21. To me, he seemed like a real man....little did I know!

He was 32 I was 24. Still here 45 years later.

I was 16 he was 18. Still happy and together fifty years later

Met at work when I was 17, he 18. Married when I was 21. It was 55 years a couple of weeks ago, but I was widowed 3 years ago.

That's interesting Delia22 - we were definitely the "odd ones out" and we both had very close friends who (separately) tried to talk us out of it... my best friend was very blunt and dismissive actually and thought we were ruining our lives.

It was hard to hear at the time though - from people we loved.

NOT SPAGETTI; yes many of our friends did marry young! They are not all still together though. Unfortunately. Just as another poster commented, how we have made it to 50+years is astonishing! And it's certainly NEVER been boring! Maybe opposites do attract!!😀

I was just 21 and he was 23. We married 4 years later and have our 43rd wedding anniversary this August!

My son met his wife when he was 16 and they married in their twenties. 15 years later they have children and are still happy, unusual amongst their friends who met young and are now divorced.
My other three children are still single and I doubt that they will marry now which I find sad. But times have changed.

I was 21 when I met my husband in 1964, he was 18 years old and told me he was 21 and when he told me the truth three months later it was too late, I was head over heels in love with him. We were married 47 years and together 50 years when he died 10 years ago. He was my soulmate, he still is my soulmate.

I was 19, he was 24 and we were quickly inseperable. We married four years later, 50 years next May.
I feel lucky to have met him when I was so young, so many people don't have as long together. My mother was widowed at 58 and I know that she always felt the loss of my father.
