Limerence ..... the shame and embarrassment of it

We are all human - having a crush on someone seems to be part of the human condition - no need for shame.

It is what you do (or more importantly not do) about it that matters.

A little bit of icing on life's cake and harmless if dealt with sensibly.

I wouldn't be very pleased if my husband had a limerence .

GrannyH50 you are not alone. Yes it happened to me and I think I must have been in my early 50s. Now I wonder if it could have been a hormonal imbalance at that age. I have never, ever mentioned it before to anyone because I also felt ashamed
I was at the time happily married but was completely in awe of this person. I kept this completely to myself. Eventually it all just faded away which also makes me think it could have been hormonal. Don't feel so bad - you are perfectly normal as I'm sure this must happen to others.

It's a strange word, one I had never heard of. When I first read it I thought it was something to do with our Limericks thread. So I Googled it or course, and find it's just modern parlance for a crush. No need to feel embarrased Granny H50 . Most of us have had crushes at some time in our lives, I think. Just put it behind you and move on.

Sounds like the sort of condition that would have had my grandmother reaching for the Andrews liver salts!

It's far more than a crush

I've just googled it and it sounds alot more than a crush. It's an infatuation and can be obsessive.
I think what you need to focus on OP is that you ARE over it. It's done and dusted. You can't control emotions so there is no need to feel guilty or embarrassed about it. It's over now and you can move on from it.

I had to look the term up, but I can remember this happening to someone at work. It was highly embarrassing all round and to be honest the person who went through it was probably the least likely person. Still she survived, we do get over these things.

Yes I can see how this could develop as you say Maw. Sometimes our inhibitions go awry and we do or think things that normally we would shy away from.

Can we use limerence as a verb?

As in:
"I really limerence Rufus Sewell"

I'd still limerence him even if he was wearing a onesie
