We met through a mutual friend at a tennis club dance in Edinburgh - neither of us ever played and we dated for two years. His job took him further and further south until he was back in London and I was very familiar with Waverley Station. I felt that we had reached a turning point in our relationship, it felt like make or break time!
We went out to dinner at our favourite restaurant in Edinburgh and I had a feeling something was in the air, but no. Next morning, he was frying some mushrooms and I was making a pot of tea when he popped the question! I said. "Sorry" because I was so surprised and he thought I meant "No". However, we soon sorted out the misunderstanding and got married a year later. That was 44 years ago and we've just come home from another visit to our favourite city. When I asked him why he didn't ask me over dinner the night before he said he'd wanted it to feel 'real' and not 'staged'. He's so British!!!

Heatwave now, but what’s the betting…?
