Plummer terrier puppy

Plummer terrier now on Paul O’Grady programme For the love of dogs.

It’s a long time since I had a dog and have missed not having one. However they are very tying if you like holidays. Now I’m by myself I have succumbed and just before Christmas adopted a puppy. Admit I’d forgotten how much work they are when young. He’s four months now and a ball of fun and not too much mischief (ooh those super sharp puppy teeth). He is toilet trained and sleeps throughout the night. He doesn’t like me “missing” even if he can see or hear me. We are just conquering The car! Just stopped crying for the whole journey (an being travel sick) and we only go 2.5 miles!

My DGD has a JR x Westie with all the energy of the JR and all the charm of the Westie! Just beware of the JR genes!

DH is a big hiker so hopefully he'll tire the dog out most days.

One of our neighbours has JRT, Hetty58 and he's still noisy and energetic although he's very old!

These dogs are bigger, though, I think, are they crossed with beagles which are larger and very energetic?

I feel exhausted thinking about it!

Callistemon21, more energetic that a JRT? Crikey! Mine still flies around with no sign of slowing down - aged 13.

My DS has Toller CanadianGran (it's abbreviated in the UK). He's a really lovely character and has been the perfect companion and protector for DGS. So clever too and pre-empts what you want him to do. But he moults. Sheds fur everywhere all year in cushion fulls. The won't have another simply due to this.

Plummer terriers are usually working dogs and very energetic, I think, even more so than JRs. Do you have lots of time and energy?

I just googled the breed, and they look like lively little dogs. I know making a decision to get a dog is a big one, and if you are going to the breeder you will get a good idea of the mum's temperament.

I had my mind set on a Nova Scotian Duck Tolling Retriever (such a long name), but when we went to the breeder somehow the dogs didn't impress us much. We ended up with an Australian shepherd, and she is a really good fit for our family. It was good to visit the breeder for insight.

I have researched them and they're like most terriers. We've had a few terriers over the years, so lots of experience. I've done my bit with rescue dogs having had three. All of which had problems as rescues usually do, otherwise they wouldn't be rescue dogs. I was asking if anyone had a plummer for more info that's all. Got a few reservations about having another dog after five dog free years, but we've made the decision now and I would never give up on a dog. One Border terrier we had was a total nightmare with other dogs but we stuck it out with him. Wish me luck ladies - think I'm gonna need it during the puppy stage!

Research the breed , any likely problems and how it will fit in with your way of life.
So many dogs and puppies awaiting homes in rescue centres because their owners didn’t do a bit of basic homework.

Just Googled it as I'd not heard of them. What a really lovely looking dog! (Although may be a bit too energetic and too much of a hunter for me!)

The Kennel Club site used to list all breeds with their character traits, genetic problems etc.
