I am 59 next month. My health is very bad and I spend the majority of my life in bed. Always in pain, and usually alone. I could use some friends to chat with. I guess I should admit im American, but i do not approve of what's happening here. Other than location, I am British in every other way I think. My Grandmother was from Liverpool. My DNA results say 96% UK. And the one time ive been blessed enough to visit, I actually felt like I was home for maybe the first time in my life. So if anyone's up for a chat, hit me up!

Welcome and we have other lovely Gransnetters on here from America!

I’m sorry you are so unwell and bedridden.

I’d like to suggest you look at the many other threads on here as there’s bound to be a few which interest you and the more you look at and respond the more of us you’ll get to know.

Enjoy flowers

JazzyGrl welcome to Gransnet and I'm sorry your health is not so good.
Don't feel you have to apologise for being American, we don't blame you! There are several other American members on here 😊
Have a read of the other forums and join in with what interests you 🙂

I hope now you have found Gransnet you will see a variety of topics you can enjoy. There is a great range of people and interests and you will find lots of ideas and help from people who have many and varied experiences.

Hello JazzyGrl and welcome. I'm not a prolific poster on here so still getting to know lots of other members. I've got rellies in America, whose parents emigrated from my home town in Derbyshire and as well as sharing the same ancestors we have even met in the UK and remain in touch. Plus I have two very good friends here whose children all emigrated across the pond.

You'll find a wide variety of folks on here and lots to keep you interested and even amused.

It's very sad that you are in such poor health but you'll find others on here in similar circumstances who try to remain as cheerful as they can. For myself I have a disabled/housebound husband of 54 years and finding it all very difficult, but fortunately I'm currently pretty well.

Have fun and get some light relief for yourself.

What are your interests Jazzy? I’m a bit housebound myself and am pretty obsessed with podcasts these days. And instagram!

JazzyGrl Sun 19-Jul-26 23:08:43

I like art and history and music and photography and animals and knitting. How about you?

JazzyGrl Sun 19-Jul-26 23:11:37

You seem to have an incredibly upbeat outlook. I love that! And need way more of it in my life. Im sorry about your husband. Being a caregiver is grinding

JazzyGrl Sun 19-Jul-26 23:12:33

Thank you!

Where do you live in America JazzyGirl? My aunt spent all her working life in San Francisco as a nanny. She loved the climate and the people she worked for.
I am sorry you have a lot of pain but I would like to join with others in welcoming you to Gransnet. I am sure others will message you tomorrow but it is getting late here (gone 11pm) and some of us have been watching the final of the WorldCup so will soon be off to bed. Enjoy reading through the threads on this forum and maybe contributing as well. See you tomorrow.

My favourite podcasts are history ones. I’ll get obsessed with a subject, listen to everything I can about it and then forget it all by the time I’ve moved onto something else!

Good to hear from you.I went to college in Liverpool, many years ago.We don’t live that far from there but my walking is very poor these days.”the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak” springs to mind.
I,also, like crafts.Knitting and crochet being my main interests but I am left handed and everything is geared to right handers!!!
Let us know how you get on..Barbara

JazzyGrl Sun 19-Jul-26 23:57:42

JazzyGrl Sun 19-Jul-26 23:59:45

Welcome from me too Jazzygirl
Like you I often now feel I need to apologise for my country but all we can do is make sure we don’t go down the same rabbit hole ourselves we can’t be blamed for what our country does
It must be very frustrating spending so much time on your own and in bed I get so bored so easily I find a day in difficult so I take my hat off to you for managing to stay upbeat
I hope you get some fun out if Gransnet
I got locked out this morning and had a panic 😱 but managed to solve the problem (no idea how) but yes GN is a daily need for me now even if I disagree with half of what is said 🤣

MayBee70 Mon 20-Jul-26 09:43:17

I’ve been locked out of gransnet too recently, both on my iPad and my computer. No idea how it happened. I managed to get back on using Google chrome as my browser on my iPad ( as a complete technophobe no idea how I managed to do it). Was temporarily locked out of another forum, too, but everyone was having problems at the time. Being stuck at home most of the time I really depend on the internet; when it goes wrong my world implodes!

What a fascinating life!

We lived in California for a year, back in 1974! I was a sophomore at Palos Verdes High school.

I have a cousin still living in California, in Huntingdon beach and friends in New England.

I too was lucky enough to travel to Hawaii.

I hope you find some interests and new “friends” here flowers
