How on earth do you pronounce it without tripping over your tongue: so to speak.

A bit of a mouthful.!

Here's a fun word for you
Onimonipea
Which are words that make sounds - Bam! Pow! Whoosh, goes the wind
Pronounced ah' nuh mah' nuh pee' uh
Say it fast 3 times!

Don't you mean Onomatopoeia, which is a type of word, or the process of creating a word, that phonetically imitates, resembles, or suggests a sound that it refers to.

Longdistancegrnny I can smell the freshly fallen rain on the ground at the mere mention of PETRICHOR, I’m with you it’s wonderful.

Thanks Ferry23. I have come across this word but I don't believe I've ever used it. Ill try harder.
Onomatopoeia is familiar I think to every school pupil who has attended an English lesson.

I love the word 'petrichor' which is the smell you get after a shower of rain when it hasn't rained for a while - my son taught it to me a few years ago! There was not much call for that word this summer!

In my 20s, I read all the novels of Iris Murdoch and quickly realised I was encountering a new word or three with each one. What a writer she was!
One of my favourites was (and still is) "persiflage" - it's almost onomatopoeic as, to my ear anyway, it sounds pretty much like what it is. I do use it sometimes, though not as often as I should, given all the meaningless yattering that goes on in the world nowadays! I just love an author who can use a word like that as naturally as any other.

I'm probably stretching things a bit putting this here, but I learnt a new word today and it's wonderful. I keep saying it -

verisimilitude -

perhaps everyone else knows this word, but I didn't. Just a wonderful word 🙂

I learned this word from Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado, where Poo Bah says he added 'merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to a bald and unconvincing narrative" (to explain why he added colourful and comically unbelievable detail to the fabricated story of Nanki-Poo's execution.)
Ah the days of G&S!

I love words too, and learning Spanish on Duolingo I recently came across the word 'ubicacion' meaning specific location. I just love that word

Onomatopoeia is a word that is reasonably well used. I would have thought fairly standard basic English Language learning

Unfortunately, you pee-uhd up the wrong tree.

You meant onomatopoeia, which is pronounced an entirely different way.

Sometimes, we remember the when & where of learning a new word. For verisimilitude, I was reading a review of the film, 300. Ever since, I've been fascinated with this word! But I only rarely find opportunities to use it!

Excellent word ferry23 I have seen it written down but have never had cause to use it in conversation.
