I think ‘I sent it to myself’ is correct, isn’t it? ‘She sent it to myself’ would be wrong.

May well be wrong, but I think it can also be used for emphasis, e.g. I wouldn’t want that myself, but each to their own.

I think it's partly a historic reaction to our late Queen's references to 'My husband and I'. Grammatically absolutely correct, of course, but it was much mocked and I think it put people off using the correct terms. Too la di da

I agree wheniwasyourage people use myself incorrectly in an attempt to sound well educated. It is really annoying.
I read today about someone visiting the home of an older relative which was apparently full of knicker nacks. An interesting concept.

Then there are those who over compensate by using “I” when it should be “me” (yes, Prince William I’m speaking to you too)
Talk of “on behalf of my wife and I” or”thank you for welcoming my wife and I”

Just take the other person out of the sentence and it should be obvious even if you have no grasp of subject/object or nominative/accusative.

It’s infuriating. I think what has happened is that people were told, quite rightly, for so long not to say ‘Me and my mum are going shopping’ (or whatever) that the simple, useful, often correct little word ‘me’ has been dumped altogether.

Yes, I think people do think that it's cleverer or makes them sound well-educated, Witzend. It gets right up my nose too!

I have to grit my teeth when people ask me to "send it to myself" when I feel like shouting "Me! It's me, not myself!"
