I saw a 'chez lounge' advertised on my local Freecycle.
Still, it gave even a nitpicking old pedant like me a good laugh.

We read what we expect to be there. If the first and last letters are there it doesn't matter what order the letters in between are. Our brains work it out.

We have had this thread before, as I seem to remember writing that Chester Draws sounds like a really bad music hall act.

I can't stand complicated spells. They never work because I've missed out the gnat's teeth or something.

Or even "complicated spellings" I did proof read it but I think we read what we think is there or maybe a witch was helping.

I have 2 friends that proof read but maybe newspapers don't employ them because of the speed they have to work to get the paper out. It is often translations they proof read.

Sorry to say I could not remembe how to spell drawer until someone wrote it correctly. Spell check can't pick up that sort of mistake and typing on my iPad is difficult when it keeps putting in a word I don't want. (Just done it again).

There are lots of American spellings that annoy me when I see them but logically maybe it is better when silent letters are missed out. The aim is to communicate clearly not with complicated spells that people have a problem remembering.

They appear to be few and far between. I notice more mistakes when reading from my Kindle than reading eg a paperback.

There was a lady on Pointless the other day who said she was a proof reader

According to my brother who is in the business, noChristinefrance they don't.

Add to that defuse / diffuse they are different. I read a lot and am sometimes horrified at the spelling errors that have gone into print. Does nobody proof read any more.?

Probably a combination of predictable text, not proof reading, and not writing the word very often.

And a legacy of really poor teaching of spelling at primary school; but I'm not sure I want to go there/their/they're

I have typed draw instead of drawer I'm sorry to say due to a momentary lack of concentration.
The weather/whether is common on FB along with a list of others. A RL friend's daughter is a cause of constant amusement irritation in that respect.

Some people just can't spell but why they don't bother to spell check is a puzzle. I have 2 or 3 words that I always hesitate over and they aren't difficult words I just seem to have a blind spot about them but I usually spell check just in case.

It is one of my hates , is it due to sloppy speech ?

New take-away near us advertising ' deserts' . I am going to go in and ask for a Sahara or a Gobi

It could be a result of the casual attitude to spelling in schools, in recent years.

I don't know 'Joelsnan* but someone I work with sends emails saying that something or another is in the draw behind the counter - it drives me crackers.

I've seen adverts for Chester Draws!
