A shock indeed.

Galaxy Fri 14-Aug-26 21:56:09

Thats a nice thing to say. I think!

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 21:54:06

Galaxy -when I read ins of your posts I want to have an indepth discussion with you.

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 21:51:29

The sanctimonious pile on on GN was pretty unedifying

Galaxy Fri 14-Aug-26 21:50:48

And where do you go with that. Should people not discuss the salt path couple or actually even Caroline flack (allegations of domestic violence), I always found the narrative around Caroline flack deeply worrying but it was almost impossible to say that.

No,TT, but what is simpler, if he hadn't been placed in that position, this probably wouldn't have happened.
If there had been no thread on Gransnet, the sad outcome would likely have been the same.

That’s absolutely true but there is the cumulative effect plus a fundamental lack of caring

I knew without a doubt the suicide would be weaponised as it was with Caroline Flack. Those who placed this man in this position hold quite a lot of responsibility.

And so do those who piled on with relish including on here, you know very well things are not so simple or unidimensional

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Aug-26 21:28:59

Spot on, Delila.

How bizarre to lay into somebody then feign concern whem tragedy strikes.

Exactly

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Aug-26 21:28:02

😭

Delila Fri 14-Aug-26 21:27:58

Silvershadow, no, there really is only one issue now. A man facing unendurable public pressure has been found dead.

From what I’ve just been hearing in a lengthy interview on the BBC with Kehinde Andrews, Professor of Black Studies, there are huge question marks over the accusations of plagiarism and the motives behind them.

Such a very sad outcome.

Bukkie Fri 14-Aug-26 21:27:24

I haven't followed this story closely but as others have said it is completely tragic that someone feels so wretched they take their own life. Sympathies to all who knew and loved him.

Poor man. I do feel very sorry for his family.

What’s my posts about FGT got to do with this thread? Typical

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-Aug-26 21:19:54

I did not know him personally, what I have gleaned from msm is that he was a fantasist, with a troubled self. RIP 💐

Where was/is his university due diligence and care responsibilities?

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 21:17:53

For me on GN it was the gleeful sanctimonious piling on when actually it made not a jot of difference to them as individuals.. But a way to bash DEI

Silvershadow Fri 14-Aug-26 21:16:08

Oohh the reporters are at it. Truth hurts

I didn’t report you TulipTree. As I said, I’m more than happy for others to read your posts.
Now I’ve had the opportunity to scroll through a few posts today I see you’ve also had a go at FGT.

I think you need to step back. Frankly you can insult me until the cows come home, it makes no difference. Fortunately I am never likely to come across you in real life.

And yes I am very sorry, genuinely, that you have had a person in your life who committed suicide. I can understand that will heighten your emotions. And no, I have never had that in my life. But, I have suffered loss and am sorry for yours.

Fallingstar

I didn’t comment on the thread about him on here because tbh I have made some bad decisions in my life and done things I am ashamed of, none of which hurt anyone but myself and if social media had been around back then and crucified me I don’t know what I would have done because I was already at my weakest.
People are fallible.
My heart goes out to his wife and children. 💐

Same here Fallingstarflowers

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 21:14:20

Ah yes Caroline Flack and yes we’ve learned nothing. How lovely to be perfect

Plevey08 Fri 14-Aug-26 21:14:04

It doesn't appear as though we have YorkLady.

JenniRen Fri 14-Aug-26 21:13:44

That's very sad. Presumably he could not live with the shame and could not see a way forward.
He needed help.

Jaxjacky Fri 14-Aug-26 21:13:08

How very, very sad.

He said the speculation, accusations and social media had a profound affect on him and his family. How cruel and tragic.

And what help did he get from Cambridge?? I can’t imagine how tortured he would have felt.
Yes he was possibly
a “Walter Mitty” character but have we learned nothing from the death of Caroline Flack?
