A group of Cambridge academics want any inquiry into recruitment and selection processes.

My son was awarded a chair this year at an elite UK university. The process was long and rigorous, even though he has worked there for some years. He had to produce screeds of publications and other evidence as well as two in depth references from experts in his field but outside his university.

It took the better part of a year, all told. Not an easy process, but then a prestigious position should only to go to a well-qualified candidate, in my opinion.

It reads like "we made a massive error" to me.

The final paragraph is a direct quote from the group of Cambridge academics. Hard to argue that the issue does not require accountability.

I take exception to the final paragraph. Jason Arday is responsible for the damage caused as he is the person who fabricated his previous academic history and has yet to show remorse or apologise for the furore he has created. Cambridge University refused to address the mounting concern about Arday's appointment.

If there is an independent enquiry Wyllow3, as requested, it will be interesting to read the independent investigative findings on the issues/ concerns raised.

That is an excellent move. Thank you Lemonjam. a wake up call - and not just for this case at Cambridge - but for other universities and indeed employers on "how to".

I suspect it will be much harder in our world of AI's and widespread social media, than it used to be. and people give it less time. and yet, and yet, so many out there who are really good - have integrity - dedication, honesty - but don't find a way to get a job.

Well said. I dare say that at least some of the reason the bloke’s credentials were properly checked was because it was seen as ‘racist’ to fail to trust the word of a ‘person of colour’ as they like to call them.
