…and it’s sowing division and upset to continually bring race into absolutely everything.
Into everything? Slight exaggeration there. Believing it’s never relevant would be pretty silly as well

This lady was asleep in her bed, with her husband and with her young baby, in their own home.
“A man has been charged with murder after a woman was fatally stabbed in Hayes, west London.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called just before 08:00 BST to a property on Uxbridge Road on Sunday where they found Kirandeep Kaur with stab wounds.
Despite efforts of emergency services, the 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 20s was found outside the property, also with stab injuries. He remains in hospital and his condition is not considered to be life threatening.
Daniel Sean James, 44, of Mercer Place, Pinner, was also charged on Monday with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. He is due to appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court on Tuesday”
Someone on Facebook has asked “where is the cold dark rage”
He’s not advocating violence, but he’s questioning why this doesn’t meet the narrative of being outraged.
What is happening in our country and in our world?

All cases are very different. The sisters in the nature reserve were grown adults know to have been attending a late gathering there, so police wouldn’t have given that priority.
The photo taking was awful and goes against all police rules.
It’s the nature of SM to be outraged about everything and to accuse others of not being as saintly/ compassionate as themselves when they know sod all about either other posters or the general public.
We shouldn’t fall into the trap of believing them.
Most people, regardless of race or religion or anything else regard intruder in the home murder as terrible and even worse than murder anywhere else. It’s the one place that we feel safe in.

The bodies were found 36 hours after the murder. During all that time, the police refused to define them as missing persons. The Met eventually apologised for that failing

Absolutely on the contrary, Oreo.
It is my strong belief that the constant barrage of racism and near racism, fostered particularly by the right, who often do not seem to see home grown crimes as significant as those done by a diverse population:
Who trumpet every crime done by non whites on from pages of popular newspapers and GB news and little said when it is white people:
Have created this atmosphere in the first place.
This thread is attempting to address those issues through a particular and very sad example:
Yes, its important to record ethnicity because it is sometimes helpful and often needful when social planning, police and judiciary matters are considered, in order to get the balance right:
But to then turn and blame those who have to call out racism at work
That just does not work for me.
You believe what you like Wyllow3 as will everybody else.

Awww thanks for giving us all the permission.
Well, sadly, I'd say very divided camps, Oreo.
There have always been fears (ie, enoch Powell et al - indeed - going back to the days of Empire) of those with different ethnicities. Myths created around cultures that were "not ours".
These fears and myths, always present for some, have had the flames fanned by the Right of recent times, in the way I describe above.
Twisting it "the other way round" and blaming those who seek peace between cultures, to me is very invidious.
I would say that all GN members that I have seen ‘seek peace between cultures’ .
And I don’t think that any poster on here should continue to fan the flames.
I think identity politics are very invidious.

As if any posters on GN would ever do that 😂😂😂
I posted upthread that there are approximately 500-600murders per year in the U.K.
Taking the upper limit that is 1.64 per day.
Maybe we should have a separate Murder board on GN for those who wish to comment and publicise them all…

Pretty shabby comment
Tuliptree if you say so.
I find leaving a trail laughing emojis on a thread about a young mother having been murdered in rather bad taste…

I completely agree with you, and in my view, the facts speak for themselves.
We all have differing views, beliefs and moral compasses.
Each person in my immediate has been subjected to prejudice during their lives and it’s a terrible thing.
To pretend it doesn’t exist, simply isn’t an option for us.

I truly hope this is true

That’s a bit unfair GG13, and I think you know that is not what was meant.
I think terrible events, like murder, can sometimes bring out “ugliness” amongst all people, in RL and online.
This isn’t always intentional.
cossy if you say so.
Nothing will make me think that laughing emojis have a place on this thread.

I don’t think it’s unfair in the slightest, it smacks of a poster simply wanting to put one over by a row of amused emojis where a reasoned comment would be better.
The suggestion that we all must keep abreast of any and every murder and detailing our public horror about it just isn’t sensible.
Most stabbings whether fatal or not are most often caused by the same ethnicity assailant/ victim.White on white, black on black and so on.Whether it’s gangs, schoolkids or domestic violence.
All are abhorrent.
Tuliptree
Well anyone who thinks race and ethnicity are not live issues in Oz is clearly living in cloud cuckoo land
Which state do you live in ? Round here there are no problems but I wouldn’t say the same for some of the other states.

No one can disagree with this, of course.
However, I believe you may be evading the point. You yourself are only too aware of the latent anti-semitism within our home grown culture that has never really gone away, and the constraints it has always placed on the lives of some.
It is becoming more so, as we are only too well aware.
But this is not an issue which is separate from the general divisiveness forced on us by biased choices in reporting and other political moves mostly by the far Right going back a very long time but now increasing.
Yes it is idealistic for me to urge healing moves in our communities, but on the other hand, as I am part of them, I see the value and benefits in tiny ways - constant efforts when in situations where I am able to do so.
At our age, many of us mostly have to leave the bigger stage to others:
But neither is it acceptable to decry efforts as being virtue signalling: that is a not very subtle put down, when it happens.
(And I make no specific accusation there, but it does happen in GN)
Which stories/tragedies get to be told?
Possibly ones that will sell papers/boost viewing.
That could be how it works.
Perhaps it would help, to keep 'race issues' from Gransnet, if future Posters would/could desist from putting racial/ ethnicity details in the Thread Head?
Would that be a good start?
Time will tell.
