Very sad news. A lovely broadcaster. What a terrible week with Bonnie Tyler, Ann Widdecombe and now Dermot.

Just shows how testing ALL men for prostate cancer, is necessary. Often it will have spread even before any symptoms are noticed, so restricting it to certain categories is IMO cruelly wrong.
We have lost 4 good friends to prostate cancer - one of whom was dead within a year - and my BiL has it in later stages, so this is something I feel very strongly about.

He’s often shown being one of the first, if not the first, to break the news of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Very handsome man, good presenter.

RIP.

Oh no, 3 people in than a week, Dermot, Bonnie and Anne!

How very sad, he just a few months older than I and I had the greatest of respects fr his broadcasting ability and experience.

RIP Dermot flowers

I'm very sorry to hear that also and I think that "accomplished broadcaster" pretty well covers it.
Not another one lost to Stage 4 Prostate Cancer , though !! Bill Turnbull, Dermot Murnaghan and Sir Chris Hoy, diagnosed although fighting back. New treatments are being discovered almost weekly, it sometimes seems so perhaps we will keep Sir Chris for a while. In my prayers Sir Chris as are the bereaved families of the others.

I’m very sorry to hear that - I found him an accomplished broadcaster.

I thought he was a lovely man and am so very sad to hear he has died.

Like you Magenta8, Eggheads was a much better host of Eggheads and we stopped watching after he was replaced by Jeremy Vine.

RIP Dermot

Dermot Murnaghan has died from prostate cancer at the age of 68. He was well known as a journalist, new reporter and television host. During his career, he worked in the news rooms of ITV, Channel 4, CNBC Europe and the BBC as a presenter.

I chiefly remember him as the genial host of Eggheads and I was sad when he left and Jeremy Vine took over.

RIP Dermotthanks
