Many of us on here will recall Dunblane. No words will ever sufficiently express the heartbreak and horror of that day and the emotion that the class photograph still engenders. There is nothing that Rupert Lowe can ever say to make amends for at best his ill- informed stupidity and at worst his deliberate lying to make a cheap point about gun control

Dickens, the USA has a significant problem with knife crime, also.
Oh gosh - I hadn't researched any of this... yes, I guess it figures as it's not difficult to get hold of them quite legitimately for one thing. Via a standard shopping trip possibly...
"Even though the UK struggles with knife violence among young people, its per capita fatal stabbing rate remains lower because the overall violent crime and homicide rates in the US are significantly higher across all categories." (Google AI)
Which begs the question - why are Musk, Vance and others so invested in portraying Britain as such a dangerous place to live or visit when individuals in their own backyard are attacking and killing each other, per capital, far more frequently. Of course, I know the answer, but that's for another debate.
To return to the original OP matter, Rupert Lowe's comment is unforgiveable - he reduced the horror of a mass-shooting of children to "one murder" in order to justify his grievance against our gun laws, because that resulted in his father's weapons being confiscated.
Can he hear himself?
Rupert Lowe can make sure it never happens again!

The Joe Rogan podcast has 11 million listers per episode. And no RL is not an insensitive oaf- he is a man prepared to use and lie about to make a point about gun control. That’s not insensitive, it’s wicked
How on earth he thought he could get away with it, defeats me. I can’t believe he really didn’t know, or couldn’t remember. But if that IS the case, he needs testing for dementia, or at least, cognitive decline.
As far as I am aware, Lowe made these comments, disparaging our gun laws, in a country, which has a tragically frequent number of school shootings.
Is that what he is prepared to accept for us, if he gets into power?
If even Farrago's shambolic mob of pretend political wannabes booted Lowe out, that says enough.
My sports consultant tells me that Lowe was a failed football club chairman. Obvious choice for PM . . .
We were living in Scotland at the time, had young girls and DH instantly handed his guns in.

Dickens
He appears annoyed that his father's pistols were taken away after the slaughter of those children, presumably because of the ban on hand guns.
... and that's more important than guns getting into the wrong hands - like the perpetrator of those horrific murders?
Apparently, he wants to "release the individual". Judging by the egos, emotional immaturity and narcissism of some "individuals" - I think the very last thing they need to be in possession of, is hand guns.
Dear God, please do not allow us to go down the 'American' route...Exactly! America and their stupid gun policies have been tbe Cause of multiple murders and mass murders! We may suffer from quite a lot more violence over here but nothing on the scale that those automatic and other weapons cause in the US.
And before someone says but it’s the people who wield tbe guns not the guns… quite but the easy access is ridiculous… and now tbe politically biased Supreme Court have allowed guns to be carried in public spaces even for druggies and mental patients…. ANYONE with a grain of sense you’ll vote against that, but no the IDIOTIC court has to enshrine such stupidity into law!!
Well, we do have a problem with knife-crime, so cannot be complacent.
... but that's all the more reason not to become a gun-owning society.

At the time of Dunblane I did not know that handguns were permitted in the UK, all you needed to do was say you were a gun club member
The only person I knew that had a handgun was definitely not a suitable person, quite rightly he lost it.
Never even heard of this man.
Had to look him up.
Really fancies himself.
Old fashioned. Tory values. Lord of the Manor type.
Mojack, if you Google the Dunblane massacre, and then what Lowe said about the murder of 16 children and their teacher, you will be able to follow the Thread.
What sort of a person do you have to be to dismiss those murders, in that callous way?
Apologies,No ideawhatyou'retalking about???
A vile ignorant man with a vile ignorant comment. No surprise from him.
13th Match 1996 was a terrible day which we particularly in Scotland will never forget.
Rupert Lowe should think shame of himself describing this as "one murder"! He sounded more perturbed about his father getting his guns took off him! Shocking!
There are some really ghastly people inhabiting our world.
Ill informed … only out for himself
Surely he must have known he was being offensive?
I had a colleague who lost her niece at Dunblane. The murders affected many not just locally. Tice must know that or is any publicity good publicity in his eyes?
Rupert Lowe's a disgusting self serving waste of space just like TH who murdered all those precious youngsters and Gwen Mayor.

Butterjam- excellent post and Luckygirl that’s why we can’t ignore them or brush them off as insensitive oafs RL and NF have an agenda just as Trump does for the USA and its nothing to do with improving society for the majority. But goodness aren’t they past masters at fooling so many
Calling him an insensitive oaf is good enough for me, why not, I would never vote for any political party with him in it.
If anyone likes him and agrees with him on gun control or anything else that’s up to them, no doubt some do.He doesn’t hide who he is or what he stands for, everyone can see and hear for themselves.
The ones to fear are those who hide who they are until they’re in a position of power.
After watching a programme on BBC4 from poet Simon Armitage about Homer’s Odyssey and now one about Bletchley Park’s code breakers crucial in the defeat of the Nazis, I see a tweet from Rupert Lowe.
Apparently “the BBC is dripping poison into the veins of Britain every day” and when he’s in power he will defund it on day one.
And this man is allowed to have guns.

Sorry, I intended t to quote Luckygirl3, not Cossy.
sorry Cossy.
It’s all good and I understand what you say and frankly I do fear these people, Farage, Lowe and their puppet masters. Just as I fear Trump.
They are dangerous, they are divisive, they are very rich, they have rich backers, a huge reach online and are smoothed tongued liars.
Be afraid. Be very afraid!

A man to ignore I think .....
I think we ignore him at our peril.
While we are busily ignoring him, other disaffected individuals are listening and taking note.
