Govt announces Ukrainian style scheme to bring thousands more migrants to UK

I believe mainly from Eritrea and Sudan.

Be interesting to see how many migrant supporters on here offer to take them into their homes!

If it’s the same as Ukrainian scheme you will get paid about £380 a month.

Getting ready for the usual excuses - haven’t got a spare room, can’t afford it, I live in a flat, I am too old, my second cousin twice removed lives with me etc etc. 🤣

Is it now the 'rule' that if a person has been discussed on a different Thread they should not be mentioned again, no matter how relevant?
Just seeking clarification of Thread rules.

I’m not sure if what I posted breaks this rule but I can see it might I just wanted to point out how judgements are made on GN elsewhere but somehow criticised on this thread.

There was a thread on that idiot also 🤦‍♀️

I think the use of the word ‘idiot’ rather down plays his action.

Dangerous driving?
Oh and that dreadful story about the 2 schoolgirls killed in their playground. I think the lenient sentence given to the driver was appealed.

CatsWhiskas Sun 28-Jun-26 10:59:24

And?

You seem to have forgotten about all the cases of dangerous driving perpetuated by white British people.#

Do you remember the Liverpool FC football team's victory parade last year? A white British man, Paul Doyle from Croxteth in Liverpool, was convicted of 31 charges.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 28-Jun-26 10:52:15

Apologies for any confusion.

A Somali-born British man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and dangerous driving after a car hit a group of pedestrians in London.

Scotland Yard said five people were injured after a car collided with multiple people in Ealing Broadway, west London, at 2.29pm on Saturday.

A 34 year old man ‘did not stop at the scene’ but was apprehended soon after, half a mile away.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 28-Jun-26 10:51:33

Google says this man was Somali born who now had British citizenship, took a couple of seconds to find out 🤷‍♀️

My point about the British born Somalian male who drove into 3 people in London yesterday demonstrates (to me) the mindset of some migrants who, not born here, wish us harm - even when welcomed. It worries me how vulnerable any of us could be. Wrong place, wrong time.

So, was the man you describe British born or not born here?

There’s some contradiction in your post.

AGAA4 Sun 28-Jun-26 10:44:08

As there will be a safe and legal route for asylum seekers I hope those turning up on boats will be sent back to their own country straight away.
This will stop the gangs who enable the illegal passage of immigrants.

Doesn't this scheme vet people before they travel here? If they have been convicted of a crime in their own country then they won't be accepted.
Surely this is better than all and sundry arriving on boats.

But they will still come!
See my post above as to why.

This new proposal by Shabina Mahmood isn’t going to stop the rubber boats. They are not the migrants who will be applying anyway! They throw away their passports, pretend they are gay etc so they will not be the ones ‘form filling and applying via fast track measures’. The boats will still keep coming as they are a different cohort altogether.

I'm sure all of us agree that something has to be done about irregular immigration.
Nothing will be perfect but I will give this scheme a chance before condemning it.

My understanding is that various organisations, such as universities and churches, will be able to sponsor people. My understanding is that the organisations will be responsible for finding accommodation and work. Their reputation will be on the line, if the people they sponsor commit crimes. In the case of universities, the people sponsored will be mainly academics, so the institutions can employ them themselves.

It will only involve a small number of people, so I don't know what the fuss is about. They will have no reason to destroy their paperwork and will already have been vetted.

The scheme will give a small number of people the opportunity to come to the UK legitimately and probably be a benefit to the country. It will also strengthen the case for others to be returned because the Home Office will be able to direct people to legitimate schemes.

MissAdventure Sun 28-Jun-26 10:27:56

Yes, i hope it could be a way forward, and help people to feel part of a community, which csn only be a good thing.

Speculation is rife at present.

I rest my case.

What case? I don't understand what your case is. Perhaps you could explain.

I wouldn't trust the vetting process, neither would I take any stranger into my home, whichever ethnicity they are.

That is also my feelings

It seems there is a lot you don’t seem to grasp.

May I politely suggest you watch GB news to get a greater understanding of what is happening.

Alternatively, she could seek out unbiassed news sources.

Unfortunately we will probably get people still arriving by boats.

Sago if currently the ethnicity of criminals isn't recorded, what makes you think immigration is relevant? Ethnicity is not the same as immigration and the two cases mentioned here, one is possibly British born and the other is French.
