Feelings?

Could Mr Burnham restore Labour?

WithNobsOnIt Tue 23-Jun-26 17:11:13

Glad he has gone. Was never suited to the job. Far too much in favour of the ECHR and his tunnel vision Human Rights mindset.

Labour are now in heir second year of government and we still await a real plan about the economy, jobs and the future of the country. Plus we will all be affected big time when AI starts to kick inm

But then again in the Labour

It seems the best that can be said for Starmer is that he ‘kept us out of a war’. That can be said about the rest of Europe’s and the world’s leaders too and it was never going to be an option for us either.
Nobody cared about the finer feelings of other failed PM’s so why all the wailing and gnashing of teeth for him? Because he ‘seems like a nice guy’? He didn’t go to Eton? He’s let the country, that’s us btw down by being a useless PM, I wasn’t keen on him to start with, had many doubts about him which have come to pass.

That’s not true Oreo, there was a lot of sympathy for Rishi Sunak across the political spectrum on here, and going back, also for Teresa May. I think a lot of us respect people who do their best for the country, whether we agree with their political views or not.

I don't know much about Burnham and from the Interviews I have seen, e.g. Victoria Derbyshire , he didn't impress me as he was very awkward with his answers.I think we are in for a rough ride. Heaven help us if his team aren't up to the job.
I am not impressed character wise either as I think anyone who stabs another of the same party in the back does not deserve respect. Music girl I do agree with what you say about far too many MPs put self first. A shame, they should have taken a lesson from Keir Starmer .

Menopausalbitch, you can direct me to where you can demonstrate that you are privy to evidence about "what most of the country are thinking"?

You're in for a long wait.

CatsWhiskas Tue 23-Jun-26 17:07:54

"Being useless" is your opinion. It's not a statement of fact.

I'm no fan of Keir Starmer by any means, I think he's been the author of his own demise in many ways.
However is Andy Burnham the answer or a knee jerk reaction. The King of The North? That comments irritates the ! out of me, who says so? Not me for one.
I suppose we just have to wait and see but not holding my breath for a minute

Somebody has to take over and Burnham has done a good job for Greater Manchester and is respected within the LP.

CatsWhiskas Tue 23-Jun-26 17:06:34

"Starmer did not go to a private school that became a state school; he went to a state grammar school that became a private school."

Was just going to write that, when I saw that NotSpaghetti already had. If people are going to smear others, I wish they'd be sure of their facts. Maybe Racingsparrow is going to apologise.

Starters father owned a factory that produced tools. He grew up in a wealthy household and went to a private school that was turned into a state grammar school. The very fact that he constantly lied about this and many other things shows his character. The country has suffered under labour and now has debts in excess of 3 times of GDP.
That idiot Burnham now wants more debts.

The claim about his school is completely inverted. Starmer did not go to a private school that became a state school; he went to a state grammar school that became a private school.

Rodney Starmer, did not own a large, wealthy manufacturing factory. He was a toolmaker—a skilled manual laborer who makes precision components. Later in life, he operated as a self-employed sole trader under the name Oxted Tool Company.

Many sole traders take a "business" name.

I think you have your facts all muddled up, Racingsparrow

Lallylou Tue 23-Jun-26 17:00:46

Sincerely, what a massive job! Starmer, will take a break and go back to his Human Rights Lawyer!
We are becoming or always have been a nation of haves and have nots

I have such a lot of respect for Wes too.

Musicgirl Tue 23-Jun-26 16:41:28

I have never been keen on Keir Starmer but he tried his best. I think his biggest problem was indecisiveness because he wanted to please all the people all the time which, as we all know, is impossible and the reason for his many u-turns. I don't know enough about Andy Burnham but am not keen on what I have seen so far. We are now on course for our seventh prime minister in ten years. Far too many people in both major parties seem to have been concentrating on their own ambitions rather than thinking about what is best for the country.

Jenthehen Tue 23-Jun-26 16:39:32

I liked Kier, thought he had a very calming disposition after all the changes with Tories. He spoke up for the UK and didn't take us into a totally unnecessary war in middle East. I think the press had a lot with his demise, constantly pulling him down. Thank Sir Kier Starmer for all your efforts.

I’d like to see evidence of this too please.

Is this a bit like Farage saying what everyone else is thinking?

I’ll state this again, very clearly, please do not speak for me! Your statement does not reflect my thoughts, your statement can only reflect your thoughts!

Completely and utterly wrong.

Father ran a small toolmaking business, he might have even simply been self employed, his mother was a nurse.

The Grammar School Starmer attended was a state school and he had to pass the 11 plus to attend.

When he reached the lower 6th form it became an independent school, my understanding is fees were not payable for those already in 6th form.

He was born in Southwark and brought up in a very modest 3 bedroomed semi in a working class village in Surrey.

Do get your facts right.

mernice Tue 23-Jun-26 16:23:50

This is so unkind, not a good example for a Gran to be setting. He is a thoroughly decent man. perhaps in the wrong post but representing our country with grace and dignity.

Reigate Grammer was not a private school

What about all the beautiful children in Rochdale. Did he share a tear for them

That’s utterly disgusting and totally unnecessary!

Shame on you

Casdon Tue 23-Jun-26 16:16:02

Let’s at least get the facts right Racingsparrow.

Keir Starmer attended Reigate Grammar School in Surrey, which transitioned from a state-funded grammar school into a fee-paying independent school while he was a student. He entered the school as a state pupil after passing the 11-plus exam. Two years later the school became independent, but the local authority continued to pay his fees because he had enrolled before the conversion.

His father owned a small business, he was self-employed and ran the Oxted Tool Company, an engineering and toolmaking workshop in Oxted, Surrey. He worked on the shop floor, and it is not known if there were any other employees.

Pilgrimandrew Tue 23-Jun-26 16:14:13

Good riddance, he clearly wasn't up to the job which was handed to him on a plate, and he still managed to completely balls it up. The rest of the Labour Party MPs are a complete shower, and none of them are up to the job either, so they've had to draft in an outsider in the form of Andy Burnham. God help us all from these dangerous left wingers
