Prince George’s new school.

I’m very disappointed to learn he’s going to Eton. Not that there’s anything wrong with the school, but I feel the family had the option to be more progressive. I’d like to have seen him go to a co-educational school like Marlborough, where Catherine went. It seems that tradition wins and nothing changes.

Historic data suggests that girls in single sex schools outperform their peers, and boys in single sex schools do less well than their peers in mixed schools.

Perhaps Eton is the choice more for security reasons.

Eton does offer a range of scholarships to support students from various background. There was a documentary on BBC about a child from a modest background called the Eton experience.
Cornishgreenhouse I do agree with you point about what business is it of ours.I am sure they will have looked in depth at schools .

What business is it of ours anyway?
They are sensible parents who have taken time and advice from others who have far more knowledge than we do on the matter. I’m sure George too would have had an input into the choice and looked around the different schools. I’m curious that others feel the need to even challenge what surely has been a very well considered decision.

👏👏👏

It's his parents choice. They best know what suits George. And single sex schools are fine.
It's their business anyway.

Mixing with a lot of classmates who feel they are entitled to be prime ministers would be the right sort of demographic for someone who happens to be entitled to be king. I think Diana chose Eton as her brother went there didn’t she? I think the Crown showed William coming back to Windsor for tea occasionally during the school term.

Working on the assumption his parents know and understand him, I imagine all will be fine at Eton. Hopefully he will enjoy and happily thrive.

Plevey08 Wed 17-Jun-26 13:48:26

Apparently to get him used to it, and his current school offer boarding he has boarded some of the time at the school in Ascot.

cc Wed 17-Jun-26 13:42:06

Is he going to board or be a day boy?

ferry23 Wed 17-Jun-26 11:44:41

From the time they start prep school, any play date, sleep over, birthday party etc is subject to enhanced security vetting.

Not an easy task if your mate lives on a housing estate, or a semi on a bog standard residential street.

Predictable. No question of a State school, even one close to Windsor. Not exactly a vote for what most of our kids have to accept.

I think the security around him in a state school would cut him off from mixing properly with other children and he would not have the freedom to just be one of many as he will be at Eton.

Perhaps we should know which school every MP's children attend, just to be sure they're not enjoying any sort of privilege? We knew where Tony Blair's children went but nobody knows a thing about the Starmer offspring. Some must represent areas that have a very poor school as their closest one, so obviously their children should attend that one just like the children of their constituents shouldn't they?

It would seem that would satisfy the demands for everybody equal ,Rosie51.

But then read Mollynew’s post.

I think that would be the perfect way to stop many people going into public life at all. In this day and age of hate and division, who would want to put their children at risk by publicising their whereabouts? Or would you expect every policitian's child to have security wherever they went?

MP's have been targeted in their constituencies, so it is more than possible that their children would be too.

Mollynew’s post, Together with my post earlier about parents not being happy about the ^added security’ for the royal children, explains why it would be impossible to do, or to satisfy everybody even if it was attempted.

There would have been plenty of time to choose a State school and modify it to provide adequate security facilities while George was younger.

Sorry, but I strongly suspect you have absoutely no idea what is involved in providing a minor heir to a royal throne with 24/7 protection and security.

The security in independent schools is actually very discreet. That is their nature. Most are capable of providing high-level surveillance without it being intrusive to the families. It is very low key, but can be called for pretty quickly. (Yes, buttons under the Head's desk!), and regular briefings.

When I read that that Prince George's parents were looking at Oundle, I was concerned. It is an excellent school (my son went there) but I believe that security would have been an utter nightmare. It is not on a campus per se and the houses are scattered all over the town. At least both Eton and Marlborough (along with other establishments) are "enclosed", making safety and security much easier to manage.

Exactly what I thought. My granddaughter is going to the state school in Oundle (Prince William School) and we were even wondering if she'd bump into George in the street! The public school pupils would undoubtedly cross paths with the state school pupils as they come and go.

Yes you’re right MollyNew . the school of the ruling classes. It’s important to continue the status quo.

And for us to know our place 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

With fees of £63K per annum, I know it's not my family's place! grin

Some public schools do a swap with State school pupils for a week only. I imagine that to be a valuable experience from both sides. I hope Prince George will have this opportunity too.

Sorry, I’m not sure how you would define modifications to a state school that would provide adequate security facilities.

Some parents were already unhappy because of the added security at the primary schools Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis attended.

Now some people are unhappy because Prince George will go to Eton.
