This is incredible. It sounds like something out of a John Le Carré novel.

Hegseth is planning to remove more US troops from Europe.

But also there is undoubtedly manipulation of certain algorithms pushing a world view.

Musk admits to doing so.

This constant bombardment of one message will have a great influence on SM users - particularly those who read or listen to very little else.

People are influenced by the media they consume.
Farage is rarely off MSM, and is a star performer on GBNews. How many times has he been on Question Time?

And they read the media that supports their view of the world.

It is, in fact a chicken and egg situation.

Farage used to appear quite regularly on Russian state TV and a Reform MP is in prison for taking cash from the Russians to promote Russian propaganda. Farage is heavily into promoting crypto currency which is the perfect vehicle for corrupt people to receive bribes and kickbacks. IMO the whole lot reek of dishonesty, I'm just gob smacked that people are taken in by them.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 17-Jun-26 09:15:34

And of course there is the unanswered case of the millions sitting in Reform’s and Farage’s bank and from where they originated.

It is known that at least two large donors to the Reform party has links to Russia - either through profit or assets held etc.

I don’t think it’s that so much as most people not being fully aware of how much influence Russia has on leading political figures on the right. The vast majority of the UK population, whatever their political persuasion, are anti the Putin regime. When it transpires what exactly they have been doing I think political allegiances will change.

I agree with this analysis. The seeds of anti-Muslim propoganda sown by Russia have found a fertile ground with many decent people here, & because so many of us despise Farage and his "Broken Britain" & " they care more about the illegals than us native Britons" rhetoric, we push back & it becomes more than a discussion, more of a political partisan rivalry that we havent had in the UK for a century.
In this climate, any images "proving" a harm by an immigrant go viral on social media & re-inforce the Reform / Russian message.
But nothing suggests to me Reform supporters would tolerate Russian interference or regard Russia as benign. Trouble is, Trump's invented "fake news" and so many will just pass this factual evidence off as that because it suits the narrative they're crusading for.
Lots of ammunition for opposing Reform come the election though, especially if (as looks likely) they field dire candidates.

Vintagewhine I agree, letting them invade and take over Crimea was tantamount to giving Russia free rein to do as they please 🤦‍♀️

Vintagewhine Wed 17-Jun-26 08:26:36

The biggest mistake was not acting decisively in 2014. We let Russia think it didn't matter if they walked into someone else's country that the world would just look the other way and let them get on with it.

NanKate Tue 16-Jun-26 19:57:44

I think the war with Russia and Ukraine could have been dealt with quicker if the U.K. USA and Europe had given more and Talked less. If it wasn’t for Zelensky, Russia would have won and taken over large areas of Ukraine.

We need to up our game pdq.

AGAA4 Tue 16-Jun-26 19:37:42

Russia is getting bolder. Now more than ever the country needs to stand together and not allow Farage, Robinson and others, who are paid by Russia, to destabilise us.

Rocketstop2 Tue 16-Jun-26 19:33:17

And now..It appears a Russian ship just off the Isle of Wight fired a warning shot at a yacht that sailed nearby it.
Scary provocation.

I would really like to think that this was the case but sadly I don’t

CatsWhiskas Tue 16-Jun-26 17:22:59

The problem is how to get people to believe what's going on. It's ironic because people believe all sorts of ridiculous conspiracy theories, but don't believe what Russia is doing.

I don't understand why anybody in the UK would want to deny Russian meddling.

Oh it’s very very simple - it’s the right wing patriots who think that having Russia running our country will be better than a Labour government. They don’t quite get it - but then they think NF, TR and EM actually care about them.

Very incredible isn’t it. Almost like things that never happened.

Except of course it did. And we should all care because it's about foreign interference in our country and an attempt to undermine our democracy. How anyone feels about Starmer is completely irrelevant. I recently watched a documentary on Salisbury and it was truly frightening to see how close we came to hundred, thousands of people being killed.

Imo Russia are, and have been, behind a lot of things over the years. In much the same way as China use soft power as a means of control but in a much less obvious way. It will take more than military strength to stand up to them.

Tuliptree Tue 16-Jun-26 13:51:41

As I said, it’s a rhetorical question.

Tuliptree that’s a very interesting question isn’t it🤔

It is an interesting question. I wonder what the answer is.

Maremia Tue 16-Jun-26 13:28:20

Fair point Tuliptree.

M0nica From what I've seen of the behaviour of Tommy Robinson's followers, they seem to be angry and hostile rather than "informed and sophisticated".
