Could someone tell me what happened to the post ...

I started before going out this morning. It's been deleted?

A possibly useful Thread was removed allegedly because someone took offence at being directed to view a link that would help them understand the topic?

It was either deleted because someone reported it for 'thread policing', which seems to have become a new weapon in the Gnet moderators' hands, or, for the sometimes rather 'robust' reactions to the 'directions' which could have been interpreted as personal attacks on the OP. We will never know.

What concerns me is that the OP doesn't appear to have been told that her thread had been deleted. Which seems a bit unfair if it's being notched up against her name for 'thread policing'. (which, again, we can't be sure was the reason for deletion)

I agree that it was a potentially useful, or interesting, thread. Though similar threads don't really provoke much interest.

Maremia Mon 15-Jun-26 14:21:55

And that's fair enough, Cossy.
We mostly all do that don't we?
Skip on, if it's not for us.
Leave the Thread, for those who have an interest.

Cossy Mon 15-Jun-26 14:09:49

Always sad and a bit grumpy when entire threads are removed.

Did read this one, but I also didn’t respond as I didn’t bother watching the video link, for no other reason than I couldn’t be bothered

Wyllow3 Mon 15-Jun-26 14:05:17

Now I'm totally lost. 🤔 😉

I think it's different and sometimes accusations of same are reasonable and sometimes not! What occurs off the top of my head..?

Getting into tiffs to avoid the subject/leave the subject for an uncomfortable exchange of personalities that is beyond a little joshing

Trying to introduce what might be called "oh look at the squirrel" - ie a deliberate irrelevancy (as opposed to natural thread drift which is all part of N and P as some subjects have loads of directions)

Saying something so destructive or offensive to a person that all rush to point it out - but then on N and P it is genuinely difficult to separate
"address the post not the poster" and tbh to be expected - news and politics is a real world source of real conflict and division and we cant all be nicey nice nor I venture to say should we - its a matter of degree? For example an angry retort is different from a malicious one?

welbeck Mon 15-Jun-26 13:03:51

What does trying to control a thread mean?

Wyllow3 Mon 15-Jun-26 12:52:49

Do you mean the thread about Wealth Tax, Inheritance Tax and Income Tax?
Might I respectfully make a suggestion for starting a thread of this type another time ?
Unsurprisingly some posters took exception to the tone of your opening post, your admonition that any posts where the poster had not seen/heard /read your link would be ignored and what sounded like an embargo on any other comments.
As I said, respectfully, if you had, for instance said that so-and so had made such-and- such points in his article/ video/ podcast and would anybody who had seen/read/heard him, like to share their observations?
Not prescriptive, open-ended, inviting discussion and nothing for anybody to object to. Sometimes 🎶it’s not what you say, but the way that you say it (that’s what gets results) 🎶

This seems very sensible to me. Sometimes we all- and I have done this - start a thread where we don't quite say what we want in a way where discussion might gainfully follow, we've felt very strongly about something.

Go Daisy go - it sounds interesting and I'll look out for a reference if you still want to share it

I do admit to feeling uneasy when posters say all sort of secretly "I'll PM you" when in fact the subject can, as we later found out, be alluded to quite openly, ie "Wealth Tax, Inheritance Tax and Income Tax".

I think if I had been a newbie I would have found this idea of openly saying "I'll just tell you by PM" no one else its quite off putting.
Either just PM quietly or just be open? so many of us had found comfort or a little "hello" by PM nice occasionally we needn't paint them as "plots". Just my opinion.

A few hours ago the op space said something like "opening post withdrawn while we take a look".
Only they only used about 4 words.
My memory is shocking as can be seen!

I hadnt realised the thread had been deleted altogether.

I now think it may have said "post withdrawn pending review".

I thought you were referring to Royal Mail.
🙄

So did I.

Blimey, we could have an entire Oxford Union Debate about the state of RM and the goings on since it was sold to someone with more money than sense......

... me too!

I'm pretty sure there would've been many contributors who'd missed appointments through late deliveries or who'd not received important communications because of the 'light touch' postal service! grin

Whilst you have posted previously asking people not to respond without having watched the video with no negative responses, there is now a clique of people who are going to call out/report posts they feel might in any way contravene rules. It's tiresome and disruptive but heigh ho, all to do with keeping the In Memorial to Allira alive. It will loose the memorial support.

Surely the rules that were quoted as an essence to Allira's ban should be applied to all? You don't have to be a fan of Allira to recognise that she never started a thread with instructions who was allowed to post and whose replies would be ignored because they hadn't followed the OP's imposed rules? She was accused of 'thread policing'. What is that but thread policing?

Allira will not lose our support no matter how much her detractors would wish it.

nanna8 Mon 15-Jun-26 00:31:50

Sounds very boring to me.

Thanks to those who updated me. Off to pastures (or threads) new now we all know.

Any idea what was the topic?

Tax, wealth, investment. We were informed that if we didn’t look at the video link we might not get an answer.

If I was going to hazard a guess then I'd say it was taken down because it was an attempt to control a thread - which having just witnessed a long standing member getting banned and this was one of the reasons, then I'm hardly surprised. I think we're all well past the age being instructed as to what we can say on an open forum, or not.

Your guess is correct.

I was lead to believe that it’s against the rules to have a thread about a thread.

fancythat Sun 14-Jun-26 19:34:10

Now gone to find the deleted thread.

It says

Message from GNHQ: Hey folks. We can see this one looks to have gone off track pretty much from the outset. We think best all round to remove it. A gentle reminder to hit report if you've concerns about a thread or a post rather than bringing concerns onto the thread. Thank you
