Lots on here today about the candidates for the Makerfield by election but nothing, as yet, on this huge news story from this morning. Nicola Sturgeons husband, Peter Murrell, pleads guilty to embezzling money from the SNP. Remanded into custody.

I have no idea what her knowledge was or wasn't. I think she was one of the most awful politicians I have ever seen but that's not really the point. I think she exemplifies the dangers of those who sound oh so sensible, and oh so reasonable ( the comparisons/ contrast to Johnson were many at that particular period in time ). The 'grown ups in the room' are often just pulling the wool over peoples eyes. Oh maybe that is just too cynical a viewpoint.

I agree she was awful, and I fully agree with your post.

Like someone said on another thread, the snout is well & truely stuck in the trough

Yes, that was me that said that. Utterly sickening isn't it - doesn't matter which party it is they all have a common denominator, that of dishonesty and greed.

MissAdventure Mon 25-May-26 22:25:02

Its really quite astounding, isn't it?
You'd think some basic maths type of audit would have picked up on it.
All rather too casual.

He spent £5000.on toothbrushes..but look at his teeth. He should get a refund.

He's been like a kid in a sweet shop running wild with other people's money. Surely someone in the SNP was keeping tabs on the account, was he the only one with access to it?

... wasn't there any kind of audit of this account?

It’s an absolute mystery how Nicola Sturgeon has been totally exonerated of any wrongdoing. How on earth could she not wonder where all these goodies came from? I think he’ll have a somewhat rough time inside. Good.

MissAdventure Mon 25-May-26 21:12:48

blush thanks.

I have missed you, MissAdventure grin

That was nice of him smile

I read that many of the items were gifts to his and Nicola's wider family.

I have just seen a clip on the news when NS was clearly being threatening to an MP who was questioning her about the missing money and said to be careful what was being said! Obviously warning them off!

Obviously this WAS the reason for her shock resignation but her defenders on here wouldn’t hear of it. She must have known. He was in charge of the finances and he’s spending all this money on all sorts of expensive stuff - come on she must have known.

I would think more of Sturgeon if she hadn't abandoned her husband (she was obviously complicit) in an effort to look 'clean'. Too little too late.

The BBC has a list of the retailers PM bought from. It’s rather marvellous reading. I don't buy the suggestion that Ms Sturgeon didn’t notice these things because she was so busy. As my DS said ‘If I rocked up at home with all those purchases I’d be subjected to some gentle interrogation as to how they were funded!’

It seems to me that Sturgeon has a lot of questions to answer.

He also bought several Fortnum and Mason advent calendars, Lalique salt and pepper grinders, numerous bottles of Avon skin so soft body oil and three manicure sets. Hmmmm….the mind boggles doesn’t it. Brew up the coffee, grind the salt and pepper, manicure and pedicure, spray on the body oil, pop on the onesie with the man pouch….and then what!? Off in the camper van or Jag for a mini break.😎

Splashed out £110.00 on a pencil sharpener........?

... quite.

There's only a limited number of ways to sharpen a pencil.

He obviously liked shiny new things.

From the BBC:

Murrell spent more than £5,700 on coffee machines
published at 14:37
14:37
And the list goes on...
Murrell used SNP finances to buy a number of high-end coffee machines and luxury coffee beans.
The schedule of items includes a Miele CM 6300 machine on 24 November 2014, which cost £1,299.
Then on 1 February 2017 he used £1,865.75 of party money to buy a Jura bean-to-coffee machine.
And on 10 October 2018 he invested in a Jura 28 fully automatic bean-to-cup coffee machine, which cost £2,595.
The schedule shows Murrell bought Portuguese coffee beans on a number of occasions.
In May 2017 he spent £84.95 on five packs of gourmet beans and £123.91 on five packs of roasted beans.
Murrell also bought traditional instant coffee with SNP cash.
This included 2kg of Nescafe Gold Blend in May 2018 for £81.16.

There it is then. He was a coffee addict.

maybe he'll get off, because of the coffee addiction???

Do they think the public are idiot? Didn't Sturgeon notice the Motor Home at his mums, the Jag, Jewellery (who was that for?) Watches? Give us a break? She knew what he earned every year, it wasn't hundreds of thousands. So it's just as well she's not in Politics anymore, she can't see what's under her nose.

I am no fan but people gave money to the SNP, and that was for the party not for an individuals fancy.
Is he taking the fall for her? No idea but she will never be remembered in a good light, she can't spin this.

Rosie51 Mon 25-May-26 17:07:19

So did Nicola never visit his mother's home and notice a big campervan parked there? Or did she assume an 80 year old woman was driving it around? If there was one parked on my mother-in-law's drive I'd be curious enough to ask about it.

Grannynannywanny Mon 25-May-26 16:53:10

It was previously reported the motorhome was parked in his mother’s driveway. I’m picturing him camping in his mum’s driveway and nipping into her house in his ^slouch pouch onesie^to make the morning coffee on one of the multiple coffee machines adorning the kitchen.

Calendargirl Mon 25-May-26 16:51:07

The police collected the motor home from his mother’s.

Perhaps Nicola wasn’t aware? Maybe he just used it to take mum on holiday?
