Reforms response to Rachel Reeves’ heckler.
(203 Posts)I thought Rachel Reeves kept her cool and made an appropriate response to the heckler at the petrol station. However, I am rather surprised at the responses from jey members of the reform party.
Nigel Farage: Reacting on X, Mr Farage said: "I’d like to buy this man a pint. Does anyone know how I can find him?"
Roger Jenrick: He sounds British to me, Rachel! Good for him.
Zia Yusuf : "Could this legendary gentleman please get in touch.
From the Express.
"A future Reform government would like to give him a peerage for this outstanding public service.

'Lefty woke green' is that the new one?
Have they moved on from 'London lefty liberal'?
These labels are used for a reason……..

To be fair, Oreo, referring to people "having a fit of the vapours", " calling for the guillotine", or being a " lefty woke green" is probably not intended to be a construed as a compliment, is it?
And, Mollygo, I don't read the Daily Mirror, but can accept that the financial matters regarding Mr Farage are true, even if I am not a subscriber.
Do you agree?
Don't GN's who use these terms realise they have no real meaning anymore and don't even annoy.
They obviously do still annoy the people who comment on their use. 🤣🤣🤣 QED.
The only way to understand the Press is to remember that they pander to their readers' prejudices.
Except now it seems they pander to those who want to denigrate others’ choice of reading matter.

All newspapers pander to readers’ prejudices Graphite even The Guardian 😄
Especially that one I think. We used to have a really good paper, ‘The Age’ but it has gone the way of most and is now one sided and biased. Sad.

Politics has always been a dirty business, and it is only going to get dirtier.
No party is as clean as the driven snow, whatever their supporters like to think…
That should be shouted from the rooftops.

Oh, mae , you missed out " called for the guillotine" and " lefty woke greens" and " fit of the vapours" mentioned up thread: " pearl clutching" is being revised..
Yes, it's so funny. Now "woke" on its own has been somewhat degraded as a really useful term, others have been dragged out to no effect whatsoever - except as risible and rather - well - rather obvious?

Oh they still have meaning, and whether it annoys or not is up to the poster reading it.

It wasn't foul mouthed, it was a simple put down of KS and the Labour party but even that seems to have upset a lot of left wing pearl clutchers. 😂
Lord, but does ANYONE go around 'clutching pearls' these days?
We're not in a 1950's Ealing Comedy, are we?
It’s just a way of saying that women are outraged and offended 😁and is often quite apt.

Thank you for your response, Mollygo regarding your comments on readers of the Daily Mirror.
I did ask if you were disagreeing with the sums mentioned, or accepted that the facts were not in dispute.

Things were very, very different nearly 50 years ago as in the Yes Minister clip.
No SM or online newspapers or resources.
People had not the means of cross checking or challenging - we do now.
Yes, the sketch is very outdated not least because a lot of the people running the country now are actually wives.
The bit that remains true is Sir Humphrey’s opening remark:
The only way to understand the Press is to remember that they pander to their readers' prejudices.
Of the early years of the Daily Mail:
Early Years & Extremism (1896–1940s)
Founded in 1896, the paper originally made its mark by revolutionizing how news was delivered, offering highly accessible writing and a cheap price. However, it quickly became known for its intense jingoism, imperialist stances, and early sensationalism. Its most infamous era was in the 1930s, when owner Viscount Rothermere openly praised Adolf Hitler and ran a celebrated editorial titled "Hurrah for the Blackshirts," backing Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists.
Fast forward to 2026. Owned by the current Viscount Rothermere.
Robert Kenyon, Reform candidate for Makerfield, friend of Gary Raikes, leader of New British Union, reincarnation of Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists.

Mollygo, I'm not quite clear on what you mean by "read by people who think that they run the country".
GN often has derogatory comments about the newspapers posters read. Usually the DM, but others don’t escape criticism.
I just thought I’d join in.
Follow the link I posted at 14:07 to find the meaning.
For anyone who is trying to keep tabs on the numbers of Reform councillors, since the recent election, 22 have 'gone'.
Some strange stories about claims, by him, that the Russians hacked his phone.
Is he trying to draw our gaze away from the alleged bungs?
Mollygo, I'm not quite clear on what you mean by "read by people who think that they run the country".
Are you saying that Mr Harborne has not given £ 22 million to the parties listed here, and £5 million to Mr Farage's personal account for security/ services to Brexit, or whatever?
These are matters of public record, whichever publication one might choose to read.
Ah. The Mirror, which is read by people who think they run the country?
… I’d like to know which Sunday press expanded the £5 million I’d heard about to this new amount. Must be the GN expectation of evidence catching up with me.
The Mirror headline Kuenssberg showed was this image.
It links to this article:
EXCLUSIVE: Nigel Farage's Reform UK handed almost £15m by offshore millionaires - while patriotic Brits pay taxes
Analysis of Electoral Commission records shows that 18 Reform donors with offshore links gave the party almost £15 million in 2025 — out of a total £18.6 million in registered donations.
www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/reform-offshore-donations-farage-investigation-37194486
The £5 million bung Farage received from Harborne is a separate payment.
It's no secret that Harborne has donated £12 million to Reform and before that £10 million to the Brexit Party so £22 million altogther for what is really just the same party with a new name.
No, Basgetti If you say it’s there, it’s there. But you know how GN rates newspapers as sources of information.

Mollygo
Oh. Keunssberg and the Mirror.
That explains it.
So you’re saying it’s fictitious, Mollygo?
I suppose we’ll see if any of the broadsheets take it up.
