….because for some reason some posters have stopped talking about boats

What I mean is that they are making people who haven’t got a never been to the uk but are unfortunate enough to have a parent or grandparent who was born there obtain a British passport. Otherwise they are refused entry. That wouldn’t matter that much but they are charging a lot of money for the ‘privilege’ and taking a great deal of time plus they want original irreplaceable documents before they issue the unwanted passports.

Nuts. Why bother processing people and making them wait for ever ? You could ban all the people who haven’t got a British passport and don’t want one instead , that will keep numbers down.
I don't understand this. Ban all the people who don't want a British passport? What do you mean?
The UK actually benefits from most of the immigrants allowed into the country. Why should we stop them?

I suppose all those, for whom this mattered SO much, will be along soon to congratulate Keir Starmer and the Labour government.
Ooh look, there’s a flying 🐷
I will send congratulations when the numbers are back to the manageable figures of the 1990s (the enclosed makes you realise how insane things are today).
Thousands and thousands of undocumented young men coming into this country. Why on earth should I be worried??

You can also link through to "preventions" from that page by the way.
Here's the link to the 7 day government data

Very straightforward.

BBC verify on migration, published yesterday shows that the government is making strong inroads into reducing the mess left by the last government. This is despite people traffickers becoming increasingly professional and using much bigger boats.
If the numbers arriving in boats goes down, and the numbers living in hotels goes down, who will the insecure and chronically wound up pick on then?
Probably Green voters and people who live in caravans...?
And here they come..😬

More worringly, desperate people with nowhere to go may be roaming the streets. I read today that the number of migrants has halved since last year - I don't believe this, and feel that once again 'numbers' are being manipulated. Like the drastically reduced NHS waiting list - two people of my acquaintance have received letters telling them to book an appointment, and then almost at once - in one case in the same postal delivery - another letter to inform them that because they haven't booked they have been removed from the list. Hey presto - a reduction.
Halved since 2024, Lovesbach
For goodness sake, give some credit where it's due.

Net migration is also down, but I doubt people will celebrate this either.

It funny though when these ‘do gooders’ are asked can they take in an irregular migrant, they all have their excuses ready I
So they using these HMOs that the Labour & green voters residents don’t want & objected to.
Quite laughable as these people are such hypocrites.
Quite frankly, and we’ve had this conversation before, very few people, irrespective of their circumstances, would “take in” any stranger to live in their homes, British, Syrian, male or female, old or young.
It’s not hypocritical, it’s common sense combined with safeguarding their family members.
However, when the government scheme for Ukrainians was “live”, many many families, with the room and through the government channels, did open their doors and welcome mainly women and children into their homes and lives.

Nothing is good about any of this. We have an assortment of mainly young men arriving illegally on small boats, including a sprinkling of criminals. We have no idea who these people are or what they are capable of. Hundreds of thousands are already here.
Meanwhile, we are taking hard working individuals from various countries on the assumption that we need them more than they do, nurses and doctors being amongst them. You could ask whether that is morally right.
While all this is going on we are losing many of our brightest and best young people who are going abroad to work. A steady stream leaving our shores.
We should be training and employing our own people and not using the excuse that we need immigrants to fill essential roles. Goodness knows, with 70 million people already here we should have enough workers, unless they are all off sick with anxiety and can't work.
Well said Chestnut.. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

While I doubt it's true for every nurse and doctor, I do know some countries train far more doctors than they need or can employ. The son of someone at my Church studied in one of the European countries (sorry I can't remember which, might have been Hungary or Bulgaria??) They think of the training fees as income, I suppose like our universities do when they charge foreign students much more than our native student fees. It was still cheaper for him in the long run than studying medicine here. He is now a much needed GP in UK.

MayBee70 where do your figures come from please? I clicked on the link Chestnut posted and that lists 19 boat crossings for May, which seems at odds with your figures. It would be good if the number of boats is decreasing and the despicable people traffickers were losing custom.
I think it was a government page; I’ll try to find it.
It was GOV.UK. I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t think it was a reliable source but couldn’t remember which one it was.
I didn't doubt you thought it a reliable source MayBee70, I suppose that indicates the 19 boats quoted by Chestnut's link arrived before May 13th. Following the link given by petra which I expect was the one you saw, I can't see how to access the numbers for earlier days in May.

Well that’s good but….800 or so arrived by small boats in the first weekend of May.

Net migration lowest since 2012.
BBCVery good news but not what the Reform voters and anti Labour people want to hear.
It’s what many people of all voting persuasions want to hear, that the small boats crossing the Channel is decreasing but we won’t know until Autumn and the weather changes how many are being stopped from crossing in France.
