I believe we are up to 980 asylum seekers arriving over the weekend. Looks like they will smash the 1,000 estimation.

Meandrogrog Mon 25-May-26 18:39:17

Girls and women should not be made to feel unsafe in their own country but its happening and is really wrong.

Gran22boys Mon 25-May-26 16:37:39

Absolutely. There shouldn’t be any undocumented people arriving in this country.

Primrose53 Mon 25-May-26 15:07:44

Absolutely!

My 18 year old granddaughter and her friends went to Brighton to sit on the beach yesterday but had to leave as they were uncomfortable being watched by a group of young male immigrants from local hotels/HMOs

This is not 'sensationalising' - it is happening every day. Maybe not in Wales, but definitely in the South East

Some things never change. I remember in 1999 my daughter aged 16 being accosted by young male Kosovans in the town centre. That was the first time this had happened to her. They had just arrived as refugees. So this has been going on ever since but is getting worse with the increased numbers arriving.

The face of Europe is changing. We should be helping people to stay in their own countries by way of giving money and expertise. If they had stable lives and secure jobs they wouldn’t want to come here.

Should not the countries they come from be doing this. Would we for instance give money to Iran or expertise to Afghanistan

“You know i expect” 🤣🤣 sounds like my old headmistress. We ignored her!

Casdon Mon 25-May-26 13:05:44

I do, and I’m more than happy to be picked up on it when I get things wrong.

Casdon

The bank holiday weekend runs from Saturday to Monday, as I said earlier in the thread. Friday was a working day. No hairs split, just accuracy, which you know I expect. I can’t be doing with inaccurate sensationalisation of information.

I meant to quote this post as in my previous one
just accuracy, which you know I expect.

Casdon Mon 25-May-26 12:58:06

Whoops, sorry about that, I apologise.

Rosie51 Mon 25-May-26 12:57:29

Casdon I'd appreciate a little more accuracy when you post please. In your post at 11:54;32 answering Rosie1959 you have named me in bold.

Casdon Mon 25-May-26 12:54:02

I was talking about sensationalising the numbers Shinamae, as per the thread.

Yes Shinamae, I don’t dispute that. I have never denied the issue, I just get frustrated by those people who go off half cocked, give inaccurate information, sensationalise, and fail to see the bigger picture.

MayBee70 Mon 25-May-26 12:41:15

Thanks Casdon. Am I right in thinking then that boat arrivals are down 40% +? The only reason I started this thread is that I’m pretty sure, if numbers escalated dramatically, there would be a thread about that pretty smartish…

Here is a recent breakdown by category of performance against the key migration issues for sundowngirl, and anybody else who is more interested in accurate information than the minutiae of day to day arrivals.

It’s still too many undocumented young men arriving in this country….

We don’t know the full figures yet for May but if the good weather continues we know there will be big numbers, and the same with June July and August.
It doesn’t matter that if on some days there aren’t any, the year on year numbers arriving in small boats is a huge problem for our country.

Casdon Mon 25-May-26 12:29:24

I know, I also commented on that earlier.

sundowngirl Mon 25-May-26 12:29:11

Nor does it stop us being concerned for the future of our children and grandchildren. With 200,000+ already here and possibly able to bring their families to this country too - we have a right to be worried

We frequently see these videos of these boats arriving, if as they say, the government has deported thousands, why do we never see evidence of this?

Statistics can be manipulated

Oreo Mon 25-May-26 12:28:04

But the OP was doing exactly that Casdon but hoping to show the dates when there weren’t any arrivals. This thread only attracted comments because of that.

Casdon Mon 25-May-26 12:26:58

The pedantry is a distraction perhaps from the big numbers arriving on our shores.

Not at all. I just prefer facts to fiction. There are not bigger numbers arriving on our shores - or at least there haven’t been for the January- April period, and we don’t yet know what the total will be for May. I provided the month by month breakdown yesterday on this thread.

Casdon Mon 25-May-26 12:23:56

At risk of repeating myself again sundowngirl, there is no value in sensationalising arrivals on a daily basis, what matters is the trend. Provided less people come, and when they do they are processed quickly and returned if they are not eligible to remain, the actions of the government and the wider efforts of the other countries in Europe are working in the right direction.
There is no magic wand, so this is not going to magically go away and stop being a problem just because people wish it would.
