Just seen in the news that the Met re deploying 4,000 extra police officers in London tomorrow, including armoured vehicles on standby.

If they are that concerned why haven’t they taken action to stop these marches or made them into standing rally’s in contained areas?

Our beautiful capital city once more rendered a no go zone.

Added into the mix it’s also the F A Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

All in the week when London has been named the number one city in the world for culture šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

Police will be using face recognition technology, and organisers may be held responsible for any speakers who spout hate.

It reminds me of Samuel Johnson - When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.
It doesn’t denigrate the rest of the UK to think London is a great place to visit. I don’t get why anybody would dislike it - and I’m very much a rural person.

I was born in London and lived there for around 27 years (central). I don’t enjoy visiting at all. Too noisy, overcrowded and dirty. Certainly not tired of life, just prefer it elsewhere.

I’ll make space for you on the naughty step šŸ˜‚

Union Jacks and St George's Cross flags installed already at Russell Square entrance. A park that is an emblem of inclusiveness, anyone can spend time there, has been hijacked by people who represent anything but inclusivity. People are swathed in either the Union Jack, St George's Cross flag, the Welsh Dragon flag and the Saltire. I am very old. I never ever thought I would live to see such divisiveness and xenophobia in this beautiful country of ours sad. I feel really sorry for the popular and busy park cafe who has been advised to close for the day, thus losing a day's business.

Both marches should be banned; they achieve no useful purpose, simply create a great deal of aggravation.

We live in a democracy where marches are allowed- it is called free speech and freedom of expression.
Banning marches is a dangerous path to go down...

Marches can and sometimes do become riots, but that is a different ball game.

Maremia Sat 16-May-26 06:53:09

Eleven!

Maremia Sat 16-May-26 06:52:22

'Hate preachers welcome'?
Says upthread, seven of them were refused entry.
So, not all welcome, it would seem.

^Gawd. London is not 'our country', our people or our lifestyle. It's a bit of it which I don't fand (sic) particularly pleasing^

Calm down dear!
Putting down our capital city is indeed putting Ā«usĀ» down , I dare say some people find it cool or smart to denigrate London but with all its faults it has areas of great beauty, a wealth of history in its buildings . And if it is busy - well, what capital city isn’t?

I can't even begin to explain how eerie it was during the Covid lock-downs to walk through usually busy areas such as Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden with no-one else around, and what a relief it was when the tourists returned gradually over the next few years.

Allira upthread now you knew very well which march I was referring to. Now if you want to tease, "can do better" šŸ˜‰

Actually, I didn't realise there were two marches on Saturday so I was surprised.

Primrose53 Fri 15-May-26 22:24:50

Pro Palestine marches go on all the time and Starmer and Khan don’t bat an eyelid.

Wyllow3 Fri 15-May-26 22:06:51

They most certainly are not.

Where is any kind of backing for that statement Primrose ?
Easy to fling out, no evidence.

Eleven people thus far trying to enter the UK for Unite the Kingdom March have been turned away.

Meantime hate preachers welcome.

Of course I've been to London, many times.

Then I’m confused. What did you mean when you said I don't think I'd last an hour in London.?

Please let me assist you with your confusion. Present perfect tense and present tense.

I don't think Maggiemaybe meant that 😁

I think she meant exactly what she asked in response to your statement:
I don't think I'd last an hour in London.

Too busy? Not all of London is busy
Traffic? Pollution is not as bad as it was
Noise?

Or like me, you just couldn't walk for miles.

Open top buses are available. Themed bus rides. River trips.

My knees couldn't cope with London now.
Although I'd love to go again.
