A report on BBC

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cevp4kr79e4o

Some of the comments are hilarious and there are plenty of them.

A commentator on TV just said despite rolling up his shirt sleeves and not wearing a tie, KS is still more wooden than Sherwood Forest. 🤣

I will give him some credit though because he didn’t consult his notes and he didn’t mention his Father, the Toolmaker although he very nearly did.

Very rude to correct a spelling error. How deepy unpleasant a couple of you are, really. Still if it makes you feel good.

The person I refer to supposedly ran a beauty business. It never got off the ground but somehow she managed to claim a lot of money. Unscrupulous indeed.

Actually, very important to correct the spelling of such a major concept being discussed here.

I'd have picked it out even if MaizieD had misspelled it, but she wouldn't have!
And Mollygo no doubt inadvertently used the wrong spelling because she quoted the mistake.

Spot on Grannygravy13. I can’t even begin to imagine how we would have managed if Labour had been in government during covid. Look at how they have destroyed businesses in the short time they’ve been in power

^I do know of a very very wealthy family who fiddled and cheated their way to furlow payments.^
I do love these unsubstantiated claims.

Actually, my Boss’s, Aunt’s, Friend’s, next-door neighbour, knows someone who got rich through furlow and thought she’d stand for Reform.

It's not unsubtantiated but obviously I can't give out details here.

We were a recipient of furlough help during Covid.

Furlough and the loans saved thousands upon thousands of jobs, businesses and helped to ease the worry of the next bill dropping through the letter box for many families.

Yes there were some unscrupulous people who took advantage, but don’t let that cloud the good that furlough payments and loans did.

Conservatives did not leave us with a huge debt!! The debt left was very small in comparison to any labour leaves and the Conservatives debt was mainly due to covid payouts which Labourites will have grabbed with their greedy little hands!

What is a covid payout and who are these Labourites who grab it?

I do know of a very very wealthy family who fiddled and cheated their way to furlow payments.

I don't think there's any such word as furlow.

Maybe furlough?

sixandahalf Covid payout??!! The Conservatives paid the salaries of working people that had to stay home due to Covid! They kept the hospitality sector going! They reorganised the exams for pupils1 They supported everybody! They did not pick and choose! Labour hates anybody who wishes to work and thrive! Dear me, I am amazed that anybody with an ounce of fairness can still support Labour. We can only be glad Labour were not in control when Covid kicked in!!!

spot on love0c! The furlough payments literally saved thousands of people from destitution. Five or 6 months people got paid for staying at home. It was brought in quickly and worked smoothly.

Likewise the payments to small businesses of which we were one along with people near us like hairdressers, mechanics, builders etc. £10,000 each payment. We only claimed one but some people claimed all 3. I remember speaking to other small businesses at that time and they were all very appreciative of the help they received.

The pandemic was an absolute one off so nobody knew which way things were going to go but the Conservatives did the very best they could.

They left us with a wrecked country, with a huge legacy of issues that any future government is, and will be, saddled with for a generation. But HeyHo, let’s forget about that, it doesn’t matter at all that we have no defences, a crumbling infrastructure and a population that thinks there is a golden bullet to solve it all.

Repeat love0c post but substitute Conservative for Labour
That’s so usual it could almost go without saying.

sixandahalf Wed 13-May-26 07:45:08

Have you seen those " take one, leave one" iniatives for coats and school uniforms.

The fact that they are needed is a disgrace. I expect some of them are fairly cheap.

love0c Wed 13-May-26 07:18:10

Labour just needs to go now. so much damage has been done every which way. The only thing you can be sure of with Labour is that they always leave the country in huge debt! It is what they are good at. Socialism does not work, never has and never will!

Jeremy Hunt was Chancellor. What experience did he have of finance?

As far as I know, Jeremy Hunt was a successful entrepreneur before he became an MP.

He became a multimillionaire when he sold his business. It was a legitimate business in educational publishing that employed hundreds of people.

He will be very clue up about finance.

No, he’d be clued up about about how to make money, but that is an entirely different thing from running a country’s economy. Because a country isn’t a money making business. It has completely different priorities.

Exactly!

I’ve noticed that Farage sports a Barbour jacket that has never seen mud or rain in its life. Funny that.

Barbour jackets are designed to withstand mud and rain. My brother is outside in all weathers beating for pheasant shoots, metal detecting, walking, gardening etc and his decades old Barbour jacket is still as good as new.

šŸ˜ that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all morning.

No need to be sarcastic. It’s the truth. Barbour jackets are expensive because they last and wear well. Maybe Primark is more your style. šŸ˜

I would have thought any "man of the people" would be proud to wear Primark!

I would have thought any "man of the people" would be proud to wear Primark!

Why?

Classic Barbour jackets are made in England.

Primark jackets are made in China.

But plenty of men and women of the people do wear Primark - and the stores employ people living in the country and paying British taxes.

Mollygo Tue 12-May-26 23:56:14

Isn’t it strange that none of those clamouring for KS’ departure have put themselves forward to leave him?
Is that because they don’t think they could do better?

Not Labour and don't think Starmer a good PM, however I think he should stay on his job, give it 12 more months, sack Angela, an embarrassment and she's after his job, plus Rachel she's useless, I do think he's a decent family man but there isn't any spark there, perhaps this will give him a chance to get it right. There is nothing to be gained by plunging the country into an election and it's not as if there's anyone in the wings that's any good. Everyone just panicking instead of taking stock. Time will tell.
