How did you vote and why today

Obviously some will choose to keep that to themselves. But I went to the polls feeling very angry today.
Local government elections are meant to be about local issues, but inevitably they do reflect what is happening nationally, but this year I feel national issues completely hi-jacked the whole local government process, Todays local elections are being seen and have been treated in the media as a proxy national elelction to confirm or undermine our current governments legitimacy.
The papers are full of long analysese of this govenment, what it has not done since being elected, how long Keir Starmer can stay as PM, the back biting and infighting between contenders for his job. Local issues, what matters to us in our towns villages and rural areas. schools, potholes rubbish collection , who cares about that when we can have another photoshoot of KS, or another story about Angela Rayner
Anyway, i was so fed up I deserted the party I have voted for for the last 60 plus years and gave all my votes to the independents, one only 18. They seemed to be the only people in this whole shamble that cares about us, the people living in these different council areas and write to us about local issues.

Err no, she got sick of being told she was spouting IDF propaganda.
She was giving the FACTS from Israel.
Telling it how it was from a very human angle.
There were antisemitic comments made by posters no longer on GN for whatever reason.

There was an Jewish Israeli poster who was bullied off the site because posters in the UK knew more about life in Israel than she did, and some comments were pretty antisemitic.
That’s a shame 😳
" bullied off" She may just have got fed up and left.
Yes she got fed up of the antisemitism that came her way and the fact that she didn’t live in the UK.🤬

In just a couple of days 🥱 3 Reform councillors so far resigned? Plus more facing calls for the sack for making offensive on line comments.
It was to be expected sadly. I am expecting much the same from some Green councillors.
Missed out the word anybody before who, sorry.

What is going to happen with all these wet-behind-the-ears new representatives of the people?
They have no substance.
The future looks very uncertain.
I guess it depends whether they really are wet behind the ears? I’ve got more respect for somebody who has cut their teeth on local politics has worked, and has some understanding of the law and the limits of the power of politicians because they should have the tools to make a contribution. For who was a paper appointment, and/or has no political or relevant life experience it’s a massive gamble.

Why have they resigned? I thought this is what they wanted?
Perhaps they found out they are actually supposed to attend and to do some work! 😲
They've watched their Beloved Leader failing to do either and thought it was money for old rope.
Offensive on line posts for the most part so far it appears. Reform UK should have all the inside evidence from its vetting process- 🥱 🤷♀️
According to markpack.org.uk yesterday:
1) Glenn Gibbins- suspended following allegations of racism
2) Jay Copper- declared "not welcome" by Frage following reports of his calling the Holocaust a hoax
3) Daniel Devaney- said he was pulling out before election day but got elected anyway and social media posts appear to indicate he has resigned. The Mirror also reports that Devaney described Muslims as pure scum on Facebook before the elections took place- "I said it whilst I was in a bad mood and watching TV, it was on and I was just letting off steam. The are not scum and that was a bad thing to say and I regret it. very much offered to stand down from the elections"
The Mirror also alleges that:
4) Stuart Prior, called white people 'the master race" on online posts several months ago.... then the article goes behind a pay wall so cant read his outcome or of any others...
The Independent reports that over the past 12 months, since the last years May local elections 68 ( 10 at Kent Council alone) Reform councillors have gone to date and that Reform UK is struggling to keep their councillors on board and in line.
Now saying that 7 Reform champions are gone.
One thought it was for Parliament and resigned as he won't be paid that salary.
Another allegedly, was AI.
Glad there won't be the expense of more voting. Thanks for that info.

I have no idea what stance Australia has on trans women. I just live here. No discussions on this in recent memory. Who cares , they are people aren’t they ?
I actually like our PM and voted for him but I cannot stand yours and think he has destroyed the Labour Party in the UK.
Am I allowed to have this opinion? Clearly not, so in future I will mind my own business because I am not welcome as has been made abundantly clear by many ( not all and thank you for those of you who don’t mind foreign people having opinions) .
👋
You are ‘worthy’ of an opinion, just as much as anyone else on here nana8
Oh yes, I saw that.
Good ploy, wasn't it!
Meanwhile in Scotland it turns out that one of our newly elected Green MSPs is a student from India whose visa is about to expire.

I don’t know a great deal about Reform but what I do think is that there is a lot of caution needed there. They play to the crowd but whether they are actually capable of doing anything will become clear when they have been around in positions of influence for a while. Looking at history I would be very nervous. I was thinking the Lib Dems seem ok but I don’t know enough about them. The Greens, from my perspective, seem a bit batty.

Back to the vote on Thursday. It must be disappointing for the folk who voted Reform, to get things done, and now reports are coming in about one brand new Reform councillor who has resigned.
How much will that cost for another election?
In some cases, very little. The next in the list will be used as a replacement. What a farce!

There’s a rumour in Wales that one of the new Reform MS was assured he was a paper candidate, and didn’t turn up for the results.

Thanks lemonjam but am happy to discuss any issues here with anyone who wishes, you are obviously free to do what you want to. The term terf has been used frequently when threats have been made to women, there was some attempt to reclaim it but i still find it deeply unpleasant, and in my mind it is forever linked with death threats against women.

Yes women should have nothing of their own. Sal grover who is the woman mentioned is being supported by many in the lesbian community. She is currently appealing the judgement. Obviously many lesbians feel it is deeply discriminatory to not be permitted to organise without men. Men are not women.
I don't share your beliefs, but I do respect your right to hold your beliefs Galaxy.
I've just started a post for anyone who wants to debate such issues as Sal Grover's legal case and her appeal. Plus any other bell whether legal cases in the UK or around the world that make rulings on conflict between Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist (TERF) or gender critical beliefs versus transgender rights and their legal protection from discrimination.
I'm not going to derail this post by talking about Sal Grover.
Sorry Aveline- I wrongly interpreted you were living in Australia.
I am not Australian btw. I am a woman though, a proper one and one who is concerned at the Australian government's stance on women's rights, or rather, lack of them.
I think you are possibly misremembering.
I don't think it was here Jewishness, it was the hard line she was taking about the retaliation in Gaza. Her line was understandable, but not universally popular on here.
