Anti-semitism in the Media

I can’t copy the drawings published as they would be immediately deleted and for very good reason.

The Telegraph, Sun, Daily Mail and Times has printed exaggerated drawings of Polenski, depicted in the very worst drawings of a Jewish man.

How are they getting away with it?

And then ask ourselves about the causes and encouragement of anti-semitism.

I've always dislike caricatures as they are used to be disrespectful and this one to incite antisemitism. I don't like Polenski since he said on Laura Kuenssberg programme that those shouting 'globalise the intifada' were fine to do so.

People that agree with Polenski obviously will never help as they could handle it better.
Just to be clear, I am agreeing with his views on safety in communities discussed in the video.
Not his views on the police incident or arrests.

Allsorts Wed 06-May-26 13:34:08

I have not seen the drawings and don't want to, sound horrendous and should not be shown.
Polenski’s comments and views were vile and siding with the man arrested instead of the police disgusting. How do you suggest police could contain such a person . Our police many very young, are out there trying to protect us the public, they can't perform miracles and have to make huge life and death decisions in seconds. Show me how you could arrest and immobilise such a man ! I am sure the police would love to know. People that agree with Polenski obviously will never help as they could handle it better.

Btw, do watch the Zak Polanski video I posted upthread. His words are wise and careful.

I agree, Wyllow3, he says he is concerned for ALL communities.

Wyllow3 Wed 06-May-26 13:29:56

Taser him again, it can totally disable rapidly.

Pin down his arms to the ground.

Kicking in the head was not necessary for experienced policemen and women. It could have made him do something even more untoward if brain damaged.

I cant help thinking that the caricatures come just the day before the election.

But what a shocking way to discredit him by publishing anti semitic memes.

I still cant believe it, you know. so very, very dreadful.

These two police officers were attempting to remove a knife the man had already used to stab two people. Tasering didn’t stop him continuing to fight and refuse to give up his weapon. He had a back pack, how were the officers to know explosives weren’t in there.
These officers ran to danger to serve and protect. I thank them for their bravery. I’m not surprised a level of force was used and needed

I've not seen the images, but I think cariactures of anyone's race or religion are an insult. Even the mildly suggestive ones. I find them all offensive.

I'll go further, all caricatures are offensive since they play up on individual physical features even if those features aren't related to race or religion.

I've watched the police cams, I don't think kicking in the head was necessary. Tasering is surely enough.

He'd been tasered and still wouldn't release the knife despite repeated orders to do so. He was still fighting with the officer on the ground grappling with him. He had a rucksack on his back that could have contained explosives, that's certainly not unknown. Important context.

I agree that it was a disgusting, blatantly anti-semitic depiction of Polanski and so-called respectable mainstream newspapers should never publish that sort of rubbish.

That doesn't stop me thinking that Polanski has ruined the Green Party with his stupid antics. Neither do I condone police brutality.

Here is Zak Polanski commenting on the disgusting cartoons (short video)

www.facebook.com/reel/1329381109083657

you do not need to be on Facebook to see it and it will not connect to your account if you do view it.

Btw, I haven’t seen the footage of the arrest of the man committing the appalling stabbings being arrested, but I’m not naive and I’m aware sometimes the police, particularly the Met, have been known to totally overstep their mark.

I do understand why, in this case, it was extremely important to disarm this man.

It’s important though to call out acts if you feel too much force was used or something else you feel isn’t right.

I’m assuming the police all wore body cams and gad them all switched on, so any complaint made by any member of the public should be able to be answered almost immediately.

Whether the police handled this in the right way, I don’t know. I do know this mentally ill man was a danger to himself and others.

I do wonder if anyone other than Polanski had highlighted what he felt was wrong if they’d then be vilified in the press.

Wyllow3 Wed 06-May-26 11:13:30

Perhaps for those in doubt, we do not show the images but give references to them if we wish to view. I believe you WWM and others who have seen them.

These cartoons are unbelievingly shocking . I honestly believe that the papers should be prosecuted for hate crimes.

As if Jewish people dont have enough to contend with without this in MSM! And yet the same papers roundly condemn the attacks - and apparently dont see what they are doing? It just buys into readers' latent racisms

🤬🤬

The only cartoon I could find depicting Polanski had him kicking a policeman in the head, whilst they are attempting to disarm the Golders Green assailant…

Yes that's the only one I've seen too. I suppose the kicking of the policeman's head is representing Polanski's retweeting a tweet that he later admitted was not appropriate platform for any questions he had.

I am mindful of the Charlie Hebdo incident.

All politicians are apparently fair game as are their religions unless of course it involves Allah…

Our Jewish friends and their family feel increasingly disrespected and unsafe in the UK

Which is awful. They deserve better.

They get away with it if it is tolerated by their purchasing readers. If tolerated it tells us a great deal about prevailing acceptable norms in our country right now. I wonder if any of those newspapers' readers complained?

It is bigoted journalism and falls below acceptable standards. You are right to call it out WWM2.

I have seen at least 3 others and of the worst kind. I think you might get away with copying the policemen one, but certainly not the others.

More stirring; making sure people see this cartoon.
The depiction of the two police officers concerns me more.

If we are to stamp out hatred of any sort in the U.K. these things must be brought to our attention and called out for what they are because

“anti-semitic cartoons directly mimic and rely on historical anti-semitic tropes, often repurposing medieval and Nazi-era imagery to dehumanize Jews and promote conspiracy theories. These cartoons frequently employ tropes such as blood libel, exaggerated physical features, controlling global finance or politics, and sub-human depictions”

The cartoon of the two policemen were the least of them.

I guess it all goes hand in hand with the gradual rise of populism and the far right. How do we stop this creeping bigotry?

Luckygirl3 Wed 06-May-26 10:13:17

I am deeply unimpressed with him - but this is no way to make that point. Sickening.

My friend and neighbour is Jewish and she has become very anxious over the last year or so. Very sad.
