That would have been a real bonus for the people there who hate their leaders, but the other half seem to adore them so it would have been very messy as civil war always is.
It was all about bringing Iran to heel about the enriched uranium as the thought of Iran with nuclear capabilities is too chilling to contemplate.

Could this war be partly about the way more countries are paying for oil in yuan and euros rather than US dollars? I believe this was happening before the US attacked.
I really don't trust any of Trump's reasons for this war. His focus in life is money and power for himself.
He doesn't give a jot for anyone apart from his own immediate circle and all the talk of freeing the Iranian people and the nuclear weapon supposed threat was all a lot of bunkum.

Any one would think-

if the Times source regarding the "leaked memo with concessions for Iran including allowing an eventual return of uranium enrichment to the same levels as under the deal negotiated by President Barack Obama", is reliable and accurate- that Trump has achieved next to nothing in his war to date. In fact he has created a global mess, with huge adverse consequences across the world and he's still trying to get out of the mess he created whilst saving face.

Would anyone think that The Times supports Iran and wants it to do well? Of course not. It is merely commentating and being critical of Trump.

In reality, the end position Trumps manages to retrieve, may be that already have been achieved previously as a result of Barack Obama's diplomacy- if the US memo exists and is acted upon.

I always find it interesting what all the newspapers choose as their front page news and their varying, respective headlines.

On BBC front pages of daily newspapers links-today- on Trump and the war:

"Deal or we'll bomb you to hell", is the message to Iran from US President Donald Trump on the Times. The paper cites a leaked memo with concessions for Iran including allowing an eventual return of uranium enrichment to the same levels as under the deal negotiated by President Barack Obama.

The Guardian includes the report from the US media outlet, Axios, which claims Washington and Tehran are close to agreeing a one-page memorandum of understanding. The possibility of peace between the US and Iran follows what as "another dizzying 24 hours of twists and turns" after Trump ditched a plan to wrest control of the Strait of Hormuz.

But writing in the I paper, James Bell says this latest U-turn shows "just how few options" Trump has left "in trying to end the unpopular war he started two months ago".

Other newspapers had different from page stories. 2 papers included reports of a Seagull stealing crips from a shop in Filey in North Yorkshire "it surely won't be long before he's up against the beak".

Whatever the US and Israel can do and have done to reduce its economy and weapons and power is a good thing.

David the whole of the US will suffer, it's not party dependent. That's the point of my post ie Trump is risking doing long term damage to the US economy. No other country has had a debt to GDP ratio that high and been able to keep borrowing costs as low as the US and it's all depends on the petrodollar.

The cost of living is higher but a great many would go to the US if they could because the opportunities are greater, I don't see many US citizens leaving because the cost of living is too high. Certainly not coming to the UK because our system is so much better

Facebook has lots of US people who for one reason or another are living and working in the UK. They all seem to enjoy the better work conditions, the freedom from the fear of being attacked by gunmen, the freer atmosphere.
