I never thought I would see it, even The Observer, (and therefore, presumably, the Guardian) have given up on Starmer

Reading The Observer today, I first came across an article where the headline read Starmer is in Liz Truss territory for the worst prime minister. He alienated everybody

Further on in the paper Andrew Rawnsley headlined his article Proud stubborn Starmer thinks he is the right man, but if this is government, I am a Pot Noodle.

Then in another article a Labour councillor and party activist was reported as saying Starmer has got the personality of a Waymo driver A Waymo is a driverless car.

I thought at first I must be reading the Mail on Sunday, but , no, it was The Observer. When even the papers that are a party's staunchest supporters give up on the Prime Minister, he really is in trouble.

Some say the media and public have had it in for KS since he became PM but the flak he gets is nothing compared to what Boris had to contend with.

Boris was photographed out taking his morning run, abseiling, on holiday in remote Scottish islands with his family, riding bikes, he was hounded for years. Most of it was unkind too.

It is also his rudeness that dismays me,particularly to women, and his refusal to answer direct questions.
He attended a good school, prestigious universities and once called to the Bar, admittance to Inns of Court with their code of conduct, yet basic good manners and courtesy appear irrelevant to him.

One thing Starmer does have in his favour is that he hasn’t accidentally forgotten to declare a £5million personal gift as required by the Parliamentary Standards Committee.

Not that anybody knows of anyway.
But he did accept thousands and thousands for designer suits and glasses for himself and dresses for his wife.It was legal as long as he declared it but I felt very let down by him for doing this, I thought he may be different regarding snouts in troughs but obvs not.

There is obviously no difference between accepting free suits and glasses and inadvertently forgetting to mention a political donor had given you £5m, so let’s hope the same level of parliamentary scrutiny and sanction, and societal approbation applies in both cases.

Actually, one only needs to watch Starmer's performance in parliament and listen to his endless speeches which reveal comfortably how inadequate he is.

It’s embarrassing and cringey watching him isn’t it?

I am so glad that we have whitewavemark2 to tell us all how to think and what to think. Where would we be without this wonderful advice? Thinking for ourselves. I find it deeply offensive that left-wingers feel that they have the right to lecture the rest of us on what we should read and what we should think. I am 80 years old and still have my marbles, I can think and read for myself, thank you!

😄😄😄 I have just one post on this thread 😄😄😄 I voiced my opinion that in order to push back against the biased media, we should all think as critically as possible.

I have not said what I think people should read nor what they think, but simply that in my opinion it helps if we all question what we are reading and listening to, regardless of the publication/commentator/political party.

My friend has voted Labour all her life and would defend them to the end.
Last month she amazed me by running down Starmer and the whole Labour Party saying they all need to go asap.
This is the most unpopular Labour Party ever as is the PM.

Same here! I voted Labour most of my adult life but nothing would tempt me back while Starmer is still in charge.

He is so hopeless that 14 of his MPs sided with the Conservatives and dozens abstained on the vote regarding the investigation into whether he lied to Parliament.

We did not blindly follow Trump into his illegal war.
Badenoch and Farage would have.
Kudos to Starmer for that. 👏

Definitely!!

I absolutely agree with her.And having waited 14 years for Labour to reach Number Ten, this is what we get!

It is the one thing Starmer has been correct on. But hitting the wicket once cannot justify all the missed wickets thaat preceded it.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I think the opposite of you Luckygirl 13. I don’t think Starmer has done a good job at all. You just have to look at the state the country is in. He’s done very little to help the British people. I only hope whoever gets voted in next time proves to be worth it. These past few governments have been a disaster. Starmer in my opinion has been the worst by far.

The leaders of both the Conservative party and the Reform group were enthusiastic about sending our troops to join Mr Trump's war- possibly a situation where Mr Starmer's stance was correct, and the alternatives would have been a mistake.

Why not contribute to the threads more often meddijess, then your voice will be heard?

Of course, it will be from inside the Party.

Casdon Wed 29-Apr-26 16:00:26

I think Starmer will go, but it won’t be at the behest of those outside the party who are baying for his blood.

Casdon Wed 29-Apr-26 15:58:33

True. You only have to look on the live Old Bailey Starmer Arson thread to see who some of them are, too.

Oreo Wed 29-Apr-26 15:58:03

Stay with Starmer…lose the next GE.

Oreo Wed 29-Apr-26 15:57:06

Seriously tho, Starmer and Reeves ( the opposite of the dream team) have made mistakes, Starmer is cloth eared and stubborn and is in no sense a leader.Labour must ditch him after the local elections.
