4 GOP members blocked the SAVE Act amendment from going into the budget bill after it failed to pass the Senate.

Tldr: they couldn't it through the Senate, so Thune tried to put it into the budget bill in hopes it would "sneak" through. Denied, for now.

Not you Allira. Just above my post.

I understood nanna8 to mean Trump!

An acount of Trump's diminishing capabilities described in one of the right wing prestigious newspapers today.
Will try to get details.

I think Trump was born with very moderate capabilities & has been obnoxious for ages- so many instances of him behaving weirdly years before he went into politics.
But if concern about his diminishing capabilities is a route to getting him out,or at least making sure he has advisers with bite, bring it on.

Disingenuous!

What is?

I doubt you’d meet anyone less Xenophobic than myself!

Not a nice comment to make about anyone.

It’s only that you literally never miss an opportunity to voice your very vocal negative opinions about Starmer, which is your prerogative, however, for me at least, to liken him to Trump really is a step too far!

You have misunderstood totally..

There is a difference between a bad leader and a dangerous one. As I have learned. wink

The Post Office is an independent agency who answers to Congress, but that has never stopped Trump before. He has been working to bankrupt them so he can privatize it anyhow. Same with almost every other Federal Agency.

He was a good President by all accounts. I suppose all countries have their good, bad and indifferent leaders. The UK certainly has, it appears to be going through a period of bad leaders just now. Things can only get better, though. When you reach the bottom the only way is up, as they say.

Honestly! The two are totally polar opposites.

Although Starmer has definitely messed up (polite version), he hasn’t taken us into a war, crashed the economy, continually threatens and insults other countries and their leaders, threatened to bomb people into oblivion, insulted the Pope, allowed shootings to go unpunished, (ICE), boasted about being a Peace Ambassador, ranted and raved on X…. Need I go on?

I don’t recall anyone on here constantly dissing your Government in Australia, it would be nice if you stopped constantly slating ours please.

Feel free to say what you like. I would probably agree, they are as bad as yours. Enough of the xenophobia though.

Honestly! The two are totally polar opposites.

Obama and Starmer? Really?

I don't recall Obama doing any of those things either. He inherited a financial crisis and turned the economy around.

He was a good President by all accounts
I agree with nanna8.

Just getting worse and worse. Anyone who doesn’t agree with him- out they go. Frightening really.

I’m was referring to Trump here, not Starmer by the way.

Sorry, that was addressed to Nanna8 in response to calling me Xenophobic.

Yes the election duties are up to the states but some states are implementing DT election changes in advance. Im not sure but I think the postal service is under federal.

Albo is constantly under fire by one group or another but it's diverse and not of much international interest, he has lasted better than most Aussie PMs.

I think that the worry for other countries is the knowledge that if the current political system can throw up such madness, it can do so again unless some radical tweaking goes on.

Indeed. Let’s pray not.

Unless Obama had a majority in both Houses, he would have had great difficulty in making major changes.
Does anyone know his situation in this?
He did manage Obamacare, which seemed to be impressive.

Absolutely. I was still in the US at the time. It was shameful how Republicans did everything in their power to block so much of the good he was trying to accomplish, regardless of how beneficial it was to the majority of Americans. His presidency opened my eyes to how insidious the Republican agenda was.

Now the Democrats are doing everything in their power to stop the Republicans, the only difference is the perception of the critics.

I fear there will be no quick resolution, politics in the US has become so polarized the balance will swing back in the opposite direction. In the meantime the rich get richer because they can take advantage of whatever system, however the US government changes I believe they will want less military involvement in Europe.

Cossy Thu 23-Apr-26 07:28:04

Good luck America and America, we have family in California and friends across other states.

There’s plenty of decent people in the USA, but even when Trump has gone it’s going to leave a very sour taste in a lot of countries.

Literally, God Bless America, hope thing stabilise soon.

I simply cannot understand one person backing Trump currently!

I don't know enough about the USA to comment on fiscal policy, but I do see both Mr Obama and Mr Biden as men of integrity, who were doing what they thought best for their fellow Americans. I do not feel that about the current President.

And this is his response to the Virginia election.

Reminder that Executive Orders like this aren't worth the paper it is auto-prn signed on. An overview...

Also, the Constitution puts election duties to the states. So he can't just decree what he wants. I do feel like they are getting desperate though.
