I think the salient point here is that no country should be able to attack any country as and when they feel like it! It’s not just terrorist groups who do this.

I agree! I can't believe that anyone thinks another country has any right to invade another one just because a terrorist group has control of part of the country. I wonder how people would have felt if Northern Ireland had been invaded by an alien country during the "troubles".

So if a terrorist group from France decided to launch rockets at London you wouldn't want us to hit back to stop them.
We are lucky our neighbours do control terrorists not everyone is that lucky.

Israels current regime's attack on the Lebanon has some of the hallmarks of terrorists

- ie hitting innocent civilians to terrorise them, ie their actual stated aim to force and scare them out of their towns and villages

One third of Lebanese are Christian, of course, so seem unlikely supporters of Hezbollah.

That is true but they are unable to do anything to stop Hezbollah . They live in fear of what the rebels will do for their country . For example at times Hezbollah will close down the airport just because they can . The Lebanese government want to negotiate with Israel but have nothing to negotiate with as they are toothless .

What evidence do you have valdali or is that just your opinion?
I haven’t read anything or heard anything like that as yet.I have read that the Israeli government say ( with some truth) that some countries in Europe don’t understand the position that Israel is in so shouldn’t criticise.

I wonder what difference it would make if they could see the truth.

Although that's true, it seems to me that any criticism of Israel by other countries' media is immediately explained by the present Israeli government as antisemitism.

Which many Israelis probably believe, and so it's hard for them to trust reports of atrocities in the foreign press.

My point still stands. The Israeli attacks won't solve anything for Israel and will never give them the security and total victory Netanyahu has promised.

David, there was a time when all of Israel rightfully belonged to Arabs anyway.

Of course land confiscation should stop, not only because it makes the anger worse (justifiably). It should stop because it's immoral and there is no legal justification for it.

So do the current Israeli regime tho, don't they?

Whatever the madman Trump thinks, attacking Iran or Lebanon isn't going to make Israel safe because it won't destroy the ideology or the hatred which has developed over the years. Netanyahu isn't going to achieve the "total victory" he keeps promising Israelis.

Most of the hatred grew as Israel continued to land grab and treat Palestinians so badly.

Land confiscation should stop it is makes the anger worse but Arabs have been attacking Israel for decades, they want all of Israel.

Trump has put the leaders of ME in a very difficult position, Being allied with the US is a risk for them, given the history of the region. They saw what happened to the Shah in 1979 and they must know that "ordinary" people in the ME (apart from possibly those in the oil-rich states) are against what they see as American imperialism.

Would be interesting to know how the leaders in the other Middle East countries now feel about being allied to the USA, for 'protection'.

Historically Iran has never had much time for Arab nations, going to war with Iraq in the 1980s, so this partnership with Arab factions against Israel smacks of something other than just causing conflicts with Israel. And are Hezbollah reacting to attacks from Israel or responding to attacks on them??

Do you really think that Iran would try to destroy Israel with a nuclear weapon? That would be the end of them as nukes would be coming at them from Israel and the US and possibly others.
I believe Iran want a nuclear weapon for defence. Would the US have attacked Iran if it had one?
They may not have done as they believe Iran capable of using it.

Israel has no quarrel with the Lebanese government, but don't have the strength to control Hezbollah, the Lebanese population suffer because Hezbollah attack Israel in support of Palestinian's.
In exactly the same way Palestinians in Gaza suffer because of Hamas. Iran arms both groups as proxies to attack Israel, now Iran is attacking Israel directly.
It's all based on Iran wanting to destroy Israel, so I ask " should Itan be allowed to destroy Israel"?
