Celine is Norwegian, it's not a common name in Norway. But fart is a common word! It means "speed". When I lived in Norway it took me a while to get used to the signs indicating the speed limit on the roads - "fartsgrense" with my OH - who was Swedish but had worked in Norway for years - telling me to stop sniggering... even tho' he was grinning as he said so.

It's childish, but I think we can allow ourselves a little childish humour!

British farts are not speedy, only reaching about 7 mph, unlike a sneeze which could reach 100 mph.

Dickens Back in the day when I was fitter than I am now, I used to do "fartlek" training, now my "fartlek" training consists of a little jog instead of running up a hill as fast as I could and walking back down. I don't miss much from my younger days but I do miss the energy and fitness that I once had!

We don't know why he made this decision to attack Iran - I certainly do not believe the official explanation. But I do believe he had a reason, one he will not divulge, which is why he continually changes it because it's not for public consumption.

I simply do not believe he is capable of having any reason other than the random ones he spews out every so often. I do not think he is capable of the forward thinking and planing that your rationale for hims imputes.

Hmm, no, it's not really a 'trust' in his capacity for rationality or reasonableness, more the belief that his self-interest is at the heart of everything he does, first and foremost, and that it's this self-interest / self-serving motivation that he covers up resulting in the different justifications for the war.

In 1953 the US and UK government helped to overthrow the democratically elected government of Iran led by Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh. It left the Shah of Iran in control of Iran which was pretty disastrous for the Iranian people and led to the 1979 revolution which put the present regime in power.

The USA is currently being governed by a madman. Looking for for reason or rationale behind any of his decisions is a waste of time and effort.

There was no reason for Trump to invade Iran. He himself changes his explanation for the war and its endgame almost daily. He did it because he could. He did it without any consultation with his NATO allies. It is not a NATO operation, it is entirely an American operation.

Ttrump is, of course, now blaming NATO allies for not following on and causing any defeat, but they were never asked or consulted about the war, why should they take part? A few have offereda bit of help, and British planes are helping to defend the Gulf States, who are collateral damage, but, why should NATO members risk men and materiel in a war they were not consulted on and do not want?

Just found this on another discussion site from a half Iranian woman:

Dickens a really good post. Trump is now bleating about Greenland again. And threatening to move troops out of 'hostile' European countries.

There was never going to be a Quick Victory - a 'lightning strike' that would result in immediate regime disintegration.

It was delusional to think/believe that 'the people' would undertake a mass uprising to topple their government. With what - flippin' banners on sticks? Thousands had already been slaughtered for taking to the streets, they were going to do this - with bombs raining down on them?

This war was started by two angry old men who have few years left to live and who must remain in power to avoid being dragged through the Courts. They will do absolutely anything to avoid that.

The regime and the nuclear threat is a problem, not just for the USA and Israel, but all of us. Dealing with this requires cool, intelligent, educated heads with input from those military heads with decades of experience in conflict in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan' and scholars who understand the mindset and capabilities of those they plan to engage in war with. And allies - allies who are treated with at least some respect and not as a collective of derided men and women to be used as cannon-fodder if 'Epic Fury' doesn't go as these two Marvel-Comic characters planned.

Trump marches to the beat of his own drum, and it's so bloody loud that he can't, and doesn't want to, hear anything other than it. He's been elevated by those surrounding him, protecting themselves and their positions by refusing to say anything that might go against his grain; pawing over him reverently with prayers and presents. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't genuinely believe that he's on a par with God.
