During prayers at an Easter lunch event, White-Cain a senior adviser to the White House Faith Office who is also a minister said Trump is the "greatest champion of faith ever seen in a president". His attempted assassination that almost cost his life; false accusations resulting in his arrest due to betrayal is comparing him to Jesus and His crucifixion.

Billy Graham's son Franklin who was there said "you raised him up for such a time as this. Father we pray you will give him victory".

This comes after Pope Leo said "God rejects the prayers of leaders who start wars and have hands full of blood".

I’ve increasingly wondered if the USA is too big to govern. In many ways, the cultures of the south and north reflect belief systems seen pre civil war

It is still a relatively young country too. Maybe they just haven't managed to grow up yet- certainly Trump seems to embody this tendency.

Both very interesting and pertinent points.

I remember one of my first managers in the 1970s describing something as a monolithic polyglot. It's a description which has always stayed with me. This now applies to more to computers but he meant one country or organisation all speaking with different voices.

There is a psychological basis for the idea that growing up in an entitled, sheltered environment with little exposure to failure or accountability can contribute to the development of narcissistic traits, a sense of entitlement, and difficulty with self-reflection and accountability. Such traits are sometimes associated with people like Donald Trump.

Since we are talking about the people who surround him here, I thought I would drop this tid-bit by.

Inside sources say Kash Patel is next to be fired. I also saw a warning to Levitt that her cross wearing hypocrisy is in target too.

I can't believe that any of these people still aligned with him after we all watched him throw them under the bus, one by one, during his first term.

There has to be some psychological reason for any person who continues to support someone who abused them knowing they will be thrown away at some point.

I am guessing they are reaping huge benefits in the private sector and that makes it worth it.

I always thought it was a crazy country. I haven't been persuaded otherwise.

I used to think the poltical system there would make it possible for Mickey Mouse to become President. I haven't been proved wrong.

I was thinking earlier about John Lennon at the height of Beatlemania, saying the Beatles were now more important than Jesus.
Of course, in the US it was taken out of context (Lennon later apologised for any offence) but their records were publicly burned, concert tickets sent back, magazines and merchandise burned. The Beatles were devils and no one should have anything to do with them.

Fast forward to the 21st century and the US president and his supporters are likening him to God, and now no one bats an eyelid.

What has happened to you, America, or were you really always like this?

The far right Christians have always been extremists.
Look at the Klu Klux Klan. 😱

I’ve always felt Trump is like a Bond villain seeking world domination

At least you could understand what the bond villains were talking about 😂

Deranged the lot of them. Trump would be better compared to The Devil.

Things have been predicted.

Goes to show that in the end your money is worth nothing if no good comes of it. Look at what happened to Russia following the revolution in 1918- maybe it isn't the best comparison but once Trump has gone (and go he will) that family and their money will crumple like a house of cards.

foxie48 Sat 04-Apr-26 10:02:54

My concern is that Trump and his family will be so rich by the time he leaves office that they will still be able to be a malign power in the world. It's impossible to track how much money he is making because of his use of cryptocurrency but he is making billions!

Looking at Mary Beard's comparisons , yes Trumpus is all of those.I only hope he is not having violin lessons.

Wyllow3 Sat 04-Apr-26 08:38:37

Thats exactly it, the monster who plays with horrible toys and threatens to wipe out communications or people at the push of one button.

He desires fame and approbation and a place in history:

I doubt that history will be very kind, the way he is atm. He'll go down as "the mad king" or like a Roman Emperor in the later days of that Empire.

On that topic Mary Beard writes

"Historians and commentators have compared Donald Trump to several Roman emperors, with Caligula often cited for his anti-establishment populism, erratic behavior, and turbulent relationship with elites,
and Nero for his showmanship and populist appeal. Other comparisons include Commodus for narcissistic behavior and Elagabalus for dramatic, disruptive leadership.

Ronib can post whatever she likes, DAR, it is not for you or anyone else to police posts. (Meandrogrog Fri 03-Apr-26 14:53:18)

Freedom to post doesn’t mean freedom from criticism. Both can exist at the same time.
DAR post was sarcastic and unpleasant.“

Was it though?

What about your response to the same comment?

At no point did DAR, or anyone else, state that posters shouldn’t comment.

I didn’t find DAR’s comment in any way offensive and I’m pretty sure if Ronib is perfectly able to say if she felt it was.

Ironically you’re telling DAR not to “police posts” by doing the same thing yourself!

As pointed out very clearly all of us, including you, are happy to agree or disagree with points raised by others.

I have always said to friends that DT is a loose cannon ball and one of the worst presidents to be in charge of USA, as he is utterly selfish and his mind only works on what is best for Trump. There were those who thought he wasnt too bad, but after his wanting to annexe Greenland, - that was Donald Adolf Hitler Trump - then talk utter rubbish , changing his mind from day to day, and blaming other countries for the mess he has caused - that is Donald dementia Trump - and now is suggesting that he gets money to open Alcatraz prison- unfortunately not for him and his cronies but for other unfortunates that fall within his power so that is Donald meglomaniac Trump many of them have come round to my viewpoint. Whilst the King may go across for reasons of diplomacy, Trump will think he is coming to suit him. I hope the King will keep it down to the very minimum time necessary, or preferably have a diplomatic illness and stay here safely avoiding the unpredictable maniac altogether. What is worse is seeing how many americans vote for him! Ah well perhaps the price of fuel will make some of them think again!

Honestly, imo, those of us who were Trump critics from day one are horrified.

All of our very worst horrors all at once.

Had a film been made starring Trump it would have been highly criticised and panned, the reality is far far worse than any of us could have imagined (& many of us on here have great imaginations 🤣)
