During prayers at an Easter lunch event, White-Cain a senior adviser to the White House Faith Office who is also a minister said Trump is the "greatest champion of faith ever seen in a president". His attempted assassination that almost cost his life; false accusations resulting in his arrest due to betrayal is comparing him to Jesus and His crucifixion.

Billy Graham's son Franklin who was there said "you raised him up for such a time as this. Father we pray you will give him victory".

This comes after Pope Leo said "God rejects the prayers of leaders who start wars and have hands full of blood".

Freedom to post doesn’t mean freedom from criticism. Both can exist at the same time.

It’s a discussion, a debate, an exchange of ideas. Disagreeing with a posters view is not policing posts

Days after the Popes message, I see Vance debuted a book he wrote about his journey as a Catholic.

The Pope IS speaking out, ronib, to Catholics and to those pretending to be.

Maremia Fri 03-Apr-26 17:51:57

Well said Daisy. Post within the rules, but we don't have to agree with all.

MaizieD Fri 03-Apr-26 17:38:46

Well, as it is Good Friday, is Graham Jr suggesting Trump should sacrifice himself as Jesus did, to save us all?

He'd be more than welcome to do that so long as he didn't rise again on the third day....

Unbelievable! What an insult to Christians comparing this bloodthirsty, war mongering excuse for a man to Jesus.
I completely fail to understand people who worship Trump.

Agree 100% with you and of course with Pope Leo XIV ..

Can Pope Leo negotiate with the Ayatollahs?

Wow, red herring and false argument in one post. I appreciate it was only posted as an attempt to reframe an argument to which you (fairly obviously) have no answer. However, the thread is talking about a specific comparison, not random scenarios involving religious figures. Those aren’t comparable situations. Bringing up unrelated religious figures doesn’t justify comparing a politician to Jesus.

I think the Americans have a very strange relationship with religion. Always going on about thanking God for things. And yet I feel those of us in the UK such as myself who say we’re atheist or agnostic hold greater Christian values than many of them ( hope I’m not offending out American gransnetters by saying this). It infuriates me that Trumps spokeswoman wears a cross when spouting his lies for him.

The Evangelists in the US are a bunch of far right religious extremists who are politically active, especially right now.
We tend to only ever think of religious extremism as being the monopoly of fanatical Islamists, but Evangelists believe women should stay at home, not be able to vote, and that gay people should be sent to correction facilities. They also teach creationism as opposed to Darwinism in school.

But even non Evangelist Americans on eg Facebook are always mentioning God; they seem to slip in mentions of him when there have been tragic events shootings etc.

It's beginning to sound like a re-enactment of The Crusades.

Military leaders have been telling troops that the war with Iran is part of God’s divine plan. More than 200 complaints have been received.

It's blasphemy and in the Holiest week of the Christian calendar too.

Do water supplies in the States get tested regularly for contamination, perhaps by narcotics such as LSD? There must be some reason for the apparent increase in total idiocy.

There’s no increase, it was ever thus. Trump just opened Pandora’s box 😂

Fallingstar Fri 03-Apr-26 13:19:50

However, most Christians in the US are not extreme, thankfully.

The agents of the Great Deceiver are embedded in all aspects of society. Churches are not exempt from such infiltration.

I'd think people would be judged by their behavior, not by their faith identity. POTUS seems to besmirch faith even as we read of claims to protect religious freedom. Pope Leo is correct.
