So the latest from Trump is that the UK and other European countries should go to the Straits of Hormuz and fight for their own oil because he isn’t going to help them anymore if they don’t help him.
So a quick translation of Trump speak for yourself -

I started an illegal war and don’t know how to get out of it so am blaming everyone else and expecting them to clean up the mess I made.’

Would it cost more to develop, than the amount we would recoup?

David49 Tue 31-Mar-26 18:39:37

"That’s the expert view too. Enough to last for perhaps twenty - thirty years with more fields drilled, but with diminishing returns. It is not the answer for our long term fuel future."

If there are economic resources they are either exploited or wasted, why waste them. Yes we should invest in renewable and nuclear but wasting resources is unforgivable, no wonder this country is so weak.

Maremia Tue 31-Mar-26 18:35:32

Would the cost of developing the new fields exceed the possible income?

Casdon Tue 31-Mar-26 18:34:56

It’s better to look to our long term, sustainable future than it is to throw billions at short term gain, yes, if that is the question you were asking. The current oil crisis will resolve ultimately.

Look up the status of British oil and gas from the mature basin of the North Sea David49. It is not going to provide the solution you are suggesting, new investment or not.

So it's better to import oil and gas, making our balance of payments worse when we could produce more at home and collect more tax on the production, what kind of bonkers economics is that.

Trump obviously believes that insulting and berating allies is acceptable, perhaps this is how he behaved in the board room, or perhaps he has major MH problems, dementia maybe?
Perhaps it is a combination of all those things.
Well done those Americans who voted for this absolute menace and inflicted him upon the rest of the world.
Your utter idiocy at the ballot box will not be forgotten or forgiven.
Next time keep your lunatics to yourselves.

I second that!

Fancythat Help he’s given NATO?

What flipping help ??

Cossy Tue 31-Mar-26 18:28:19

^How do we suggest we show our 'gratitude'^

By literally, saying as a Country
We are very grateful for the help you gave NATO in the past, and continue to give.
We dont agree with much of what you are doing right now however, and remind him the rules of NATO.

Honestly, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My understanding, rightly or wrongly, is that there’s not a great deal of oil left there anymore. ?

I don’t think we need it do we? Our oil comes from the US and Norway and the North Sea.

It isn’t just about oil for the UK, it’s also about fertiliser without which the world is not able to produce enough food.

I think oil and gas are traded on the global market so disruption in the middle east affects everyone.

Correct.

Locally the decent garages are running out by the end of each day, (except diesel) queues all day, people are panic buying. I thought at first it was to stock up if prices get higher but it's a bit more than that. I'm going to see family in 10 days, unpatriotically, I filled the tank.

Trump? Quite literally, insane. Scary.

What I don’t understand is how the (other) American powers that be, haven’t forced him to resign by now - and preferably locked him up as a dangerous lunatic.

He’s been going on again about ‘taking’ Greenland!

But if the FBI are backing Trump and presumably the CIA and dissenters are obviously living in fear of what might happen to them if they speak out, I imagine it is hard to challenge such a dictator.

Do you mean the same Loony Milliband who is promoting energy independence for the UK and the use of electric vehicles David49!

Im happy to use the off peak power produced by renewables, we can be energy independant Milliband is stopping us from doing that.
He is stopping exploration and exploitation of our oil and gas, and would rather import because it makes us look greener, but all we are doing is exporting our pollution which is makes no difference to global emissions, in fact because of transport emissions it's more polluting.

Well said David

The previously vocal posters on this forum, seem to be getting less vocal.
Is it all becoming too real?

I keep wanting to say, wakey wakey people.

There could be horrors to come. To the Uk.
And this year??

How wrong you are 😂
There’s only so long that you can try and educate people who are so misinformed.

Maremia Tue 31-Mar-26 17:31:06

That Venezuelan woman who won the Nobel Peace Prize, then gave it to Trump, who was then so grateful for the award that he let the same regime stay in charge in Venezuela, instead of her.
That's how Trump works.

In the meantime the Chinese are laughing their socks off they are getting all the oil they need from Putin, and can sell every EV they can produce in Europe as we all panic over oil shortage
Suddenly all the EV haters have gone quiet, while the recent energy cap as reduced charging cost, it costs me just £4 to drive 200 miles instead of about £50 for petrol.

Loony Milliband is refusing to pump more oil in the UK making us suffer more

I think Trump will retire soon, and begin to write a book on statesmanship and tact.

I’ve got a title for his book:
‘ I Did It My Way Or The Highway’.
It will be a bestseller.

It may have been years ago but not sure why we need to be grateful to the US for helping them.
Are you suggesting that we kiss Trump's feet and flatter his massive ego?
Trump is great pals with Putin so unlikely to help us anyway.
