I agree with every word too.
And is good to see that Starmer is prepared to stand by his principles with regard to this, something other leaders seem to think are disposable in today’s political climate.
And despite the barrage of childish insults Trump has levelled his way, now insisting on calling Starmer a loser at every opportunity.
I was no fan of his previously and have not traditionally voted Labour but credit where credit is due.
The man does have a spine.

Have you worked in a care home Basgetti with some very elderly residents with many physical needs and some with dementia? There is no time for political opinions nor should there be.

You are a good person, Oreo. However I am less sure you are good at politics.

War benefits those who manufacture armaments.

It also benefits ship and aircraft manufacturers, as governments realise that they are woefully inadequately equipped.

A knock effect will be more employment in those areas, but maybe some of the jobs will be lost to automation and/or AI

It benefits western contractors who go into war zones afterwards and replace infrastructure costing the war torn country billions of pounds.

Oh I am surecertain economies benefit enormously from war. That is why to a certain extent, the USA is happy to continually fund Israel in its never ending wars because they have agreed to buy USA military hardware.

I voted for Starmer and have been disappointed at every turn by him.I still want Labour as the government but not him as PM or Reeves as Chancellor.Am sure he’ll be replaced before the next GE.
It doesn’t matter to me about opinion polls on the war with Iran and what the public think.Generally speaking the public will never want to get involved with any war.

I do agree that so far Starmer hasn’t covered himself in glory, however I do think he has it right re Iran.

Also I really like hearing the views of others, especially those in other countries such as imaround, she gives us a totally different perspective on things in the US.

My point of view is I’m against this war, it’ll solve nothing (imo)

Btw, Oreo, respect on working in a carehome. My dear MiL currently lives in residential care with advanced dementia as did my late Aunt. The care they receive/d is second to none!

Yes Starmer has made mistakes, but this is not one of them.

Cossy there are very many excellent care homes in spite of the limelight the bad ones receive.Glad that your MIL is comfortable in hers, getting care from those who understand dementia patients is really the best thing all round, as relatives who try on their own to manage things become worn out.

War and global disruption also benefits a cohort of investors, that’s how Epstein and co. made a lot of their money, mentioning no names but look where the initiative has come from.

Why should we follow a convicted sex offender and someone indicted for war crimes into an illegal war?

A bad person can do the right thing at times, just as a good person can do wrong things.
Starmer’s default position seems always to do nothing, which is an action in itself and can have consequences.
I believe it was necessary to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities, to bomb the missile bases and generally degrade their weaponry.Iran’s regime has been a scourge on the world.

The Pentagon has said that there was no threat to the US from Iran either now or in the foreseeable future.
Trump may have done the right thing for himself but not for US citizens or anyone else.

My DH suffered a serious heart attack in 2020, middle of lockdown and I put part of this down to the stress of looking after her in her own sheltered accommodation, even with carers. This was the catalyst for having her moved into residential care and it was right thing to do for all concerned. She’s now in her 90’s and seems content and my DH visits at least 3 times a week and is know by most carers, who, in our opinion, are fabulous and underpaid!

Relatives often feel guilt but really the truth is that dementia patients are better in a good care home with visits from the relatives as often as they themselves can comfortably manage.

I think a thread on care homes would be really useful having seen a friend become so weak and ill trying to keep his wife, who had dementia, out of a care home. He was exhausted and had a fall one day and died from a brain injury.

Thank you for the link Wyllow. In a time of war surely it's better if we stand together and not make unfounded accusations against the government.
As the information on defence spending provide by Casdon shows the lack of spending on defence by the Tories has caused the UK to be weakened. Labour is trying to rectify this.
I believe Keir Starmer is doing the right thing by taking defensive action only.
