Are Reform trying to scupper their chances?

I genuinely think this is all part of Farage’s plan to blow up the party and walk away. He's bored now.

Putting up the obnoxious Goodwin for Gorton & Denton. Sending Tice onto LBC to say they will reduce wages for young people. Braverman saying she will scrap the Equality Act - which among other things protects women’s maternity rights. How does that tie in with wanting women to have more children?

For all his noise, Farage doesn’t want to be Prime Minister. He said something today about .. if he falls under a bus (form an orderly queue to drive it please).

Restore will attract the hardcore racists and split the far-right vote.

Reform are 3 points down in the polls this week. 76% of people don’t want them.

The tide is turning.

I spoke to someone who worked with him and he said he never wanted to be PM. He just enjoys the power he seems to have over people and the thrill of the chase.

Labour won with only 33 1/3 percent of the votes. So the majority didn't vote for them. They only got in because of our voting system.

At yesterday’s press conference, Farage’s blatant contempt and misogyny aimed at Anna Gross of the FT and Camilla Tominey of the DT was shameful.

John Crace: The longer the press conference went on, the more arrogant and objectionable Nige became. He started ridiculing female journalists for asking the wrong questions. Refusing to answer anything awkward. This was the thin-skinned, sexist, bad-tempered version of Nige that he tries so hard to keep under wraps.

You could be describing Trump there…

I forgot to say - women are to have as many babies as possible, in their twenties, and stay at home to look after them, thus removing them from the employment statistics.

Sounds very fair to me! 🤣🤣🤣

Ronib, have you forgotten about “choice”, many mothers enjoy working and all that goes with that! It’s not always all about finances.

Cossy Wed 18-Feb-26 12:39:37

Nothing Farage says is of any interest or what I wish to hear, unless it’s “I’m moving permanently from the UK, far, far away” grin

ronib Wed 18-Feb-26 12:24:39

Wow a positive family oriented society… how amazing that would be…. In your dreams…. Mums being financially secure looking after children?? How??

What is Reform's plan to reduce unemployment?

I think we know.
Deport anybody who is not ‘British’ (their interpretation will apply rather than mine).
Reintroduce zero hours contracts
Abolish the Equality Act
Reduce eligibility for sickness pay and benefits
Cut all benefits to under 25s

Unemployment is going up…. Such a struggle ….

Maremia Wed 18-Feb-26 11:36:17

Now what? Has inflation slowed down?
Whose fault is that?

AGAA4 Wed 18-Feb-26 11:30:08

What an obnoxious little man Farage is.

Can’t be any worse that RR

I think he would put in a sterling effort to be worse than RR.

Farage is already very, very rich A million p.a.is chickenfeed to him. I think he is really in it for ‘fame’ and ego. Same applies to some ,but not all, of his mates. Which makes you question why he says he supports poor working people.

Farage says a lot of things that he thinks people want to hear.
He only cares about making money and being in the spotlight.

Poor old 30p. No place for him in the Shady Cabinet.

Do we think he has one more defection in him?

Labour ➡ Tory ➡ Reform ➡ Restore?

Regurgitate?

The Lee Anderson quote was fascinating.

It's a sop to lure more conservatives away? Or massage the massive Jenrick ego.

Farage is in it to get rich and it's working.

Graphite Tue 17-Feb-26 21:42:52

Yes, exactly. The job of shadow ministers is to shadow their government counterparts and to challenge them in the HoC while having no executive power. For Farage to call his motley crew a shadow cabinet is an exercise in hubris, an assumption that Reform will form the next government.

The Institute of Government is an excellent source of information about government ministers.

www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainer/government-ministers

There are 146 positions altogether held by 122 people. A maximum of 109 can be paid.

If you look at the chart as of January 2026, you will see who is appointed to assist each cabinet minister. Check out these names and who will find that most bring a wealth of political experience.

This is something which Reform does not have.

The notion that Zia Yusuf could be Home Secretary is ludicrous. He is unelected and therefore cannot sit, speak, or vote as a Member of Parliament. He would have to be appointed to the Lords. How would his work I practice? It is one of the key positions in the Cabinet. How would he make statements and answer questions in the HoC?

Of course, it isn’t unprecedented. Cameron was appointed Foreign Secretary during the dying embers of Sunak’s Premiership but it complicates the process of conducting government business and flies in the face of democracy.

LemonJam Tue 17-Feb-26 21:38:38

Exactly Casdon- only the "opposition party" can have a Shadow cabinet- currently the Conservative Party- the clue is in the name/title. That is the 'shadow member's" brief is to 'SHADOW" each of the incumbent government minister's briefs to provide opposition and challenge. Evidently a shadow member necessarily also needs to be an MP.

Reform is not in opposition, does not shadow incumbent government minsters and is way off having even the third largest number of MPs, it only has 8. The names Farage has put forward today, as Lee Anderson rightly says- cannot be legitimately called 'shadow minsters' only spokes persons. Just more Farage smoke and mirrors and media attention.

Graphite Tue 17-Feb-26 21:38:36

I see James Orr has now replaced Zia Yusuf as Head of Policy. Orr, hard-right authoritarian, intellectual mentor to JD Vance and ally to the late Charlie Kirk.

We can see where this is heading.

Women can kiss goodbye to many of the rights they fought for.

You’re wrong about Oswald Moseley Oreo. Contemporary reports say he was charming, charismatic - and handsome! He was also a posh boy, which was attractive to many.

He was indeed “charismatic” and “charming” by all accounts.

Many facist dictators have also been so!

He was a thoroughly nasty individual, an avid racist who got his just desserts!
