That's not true I will be amazed if any begin exit negotiations in the next 10 yrs. The EU will change to take member nations views into account as it always does

There is no chance of the UK rejoining EU but it would be helpful if cooperation in some areas was improved to make travel and business easier.

Nobody is talking about going back into the EU, this isn’t a Brexit argument, is about defence and how best to protect our country which will entail getting together with European countries/the EU in order to ensure we have sufficient military might and weaponry to defend Europe and the UK against any attacks from Russia.
Or would you rather we go it alone??

European forces continue to train together, and deploy Officers to JCHQ here in the U.K.

Definitely a plus in these troubled times.

I can understand that some people might feel annoyed at what they see as Starmer’s attempts to overturn Brexit, but in all reality Starmer isn’t suggesting we rejoin the EU, neither is the EU, and even if he did try to rejoin it would be such a long and protracted process that some of us wouldn’t be around to see it happen.
But strengthening our defences by getting in bed with allies in Europe, which of course means the EU, makes good sense at that present time.
Also I agree with Chocolatelovinggran, there were certain benefits to being in the EU that it would be good to revisit without rejoining. No need to throw the baby out with the bath water after all.

WithNobsOnIt, I am sorry to disappoint you, but I understand that moves have been made to reintroduce the " smug nice little middle class " Erasmus programme.
I am pleased to see this because I believe that the more people expand their horizons and their learning, the better. We may have to agree to differ on this.

I have always been favour of a pan-European military set up with all countries forces working severally and together. Severally to defend their own country and its own intersts together to protect the whole of Europe.

Monica, I don't know if you saw this particular Press conference, but a journalist tried to call Carney out with a question along the lines of "was it right that Prime Minister Carney was spending 60% of his time out of the country".

The Far-right press makes us see our PM as out of step whereas he is actually at the forefront of a definite movement. Of course it's against the far/hard/manic right wing attack on democracy so it's not surprising their client press set out to mislead.

Carney's answer, by the way, was "No, it it probably should have been more."

Your welcome. I get that not everyone likes a lecture Phil Moorhouse was a lecturer in a previous life and spends his time researching for these videos in a way that most people couldn't so I do find him useful. I also find it a useful way to absorb information.

I think Labour and Wet Lettuce Starmer have got some kind of plan to re introduce Brexit. Maybe some kind of trading and defence union maybe useful but not anything else. Yes because the World has changed

We are having a major crisis with immigration in this country and l can see if we went back into Europe.
We would be over run with even more chancers and bleeding heart. Wokes and Liberals.

The EU was a real gravy train for the. Corruption was not unknown to say the least.
The Elites did and are still doing very well out of it. Thank you very much. They really benefit and pull the EU strings.

EU was also widely abused by some countries. Think the Greece Crisis.

Also many people forget that we actually paid in a lot more to than we took out.

When we first joined the Common Marker now EU we had wine lakes and butter mountains of excess food that had to be dumped

And l remember the BBC featuring a program about the ways several countries were really taking the funding for a ride

Including one on the Republic of Ireland showing their farmers ferrying pigs around in a brand new Mercedes cars

Good Riddance to Brussels and its Eurocrats. We are better off without it.

was shown this week and well worth watching. Military naval and air defences from multiple NATO countries co-operating to train and prepare to face conflict with Putin.

Surely it's of all Europe's interest to be a coordinated body for defence you'd think so 4allweknow.

I’m afraid that leaving the EU didn’t mean that the UK could cherry pick bits of the EU that we wanted to keep without actually being a member…

I wanted Brexit but I didn't want necessarily not to work with the EU. My dislike was more about Governance and procedure than anything else. I think it would be a good thing to be involved with a European Defence Strategy. I am more than happy to have closer ties where it suits both sides and certainly don't see it as taking us back into the EU. I feel the way Brexit was handled was very damaging to both sides and these agreements are certainly a way to repair the damage in the long run providing we don't get a radical party in power that destroys any agreements Trump style.

I was ok with the eu until the Maastricht Treaty came along.
That was a step too far.

It certainly is worrying, "Whitewavemark2". They won't get my vote. The trouble is, I can't work out who is best for the country. I'm quite glad we've got a way to go before I have to make up my mind.

I think that we can be reasonably confident that Reform will immediately cut any ties with the EU relating to trade, so business will immediately loose any advantage they’ve achieved as a result of closer working, together with scientists loss once again of Horizon and young people opportunities in Erasmus.

However, even more disastrously will be Reform attitude to our closer ties with European defence.

Reform voters themselves are sceptical of sustained British support for Ukraine absent US leadership, raising doubts about what role a Reform government envisions for the UK in deterring Russian aggression – or any planned ‘coalition of the willing’ for Ukraine in the longer term.

Farage is far too close with the hard right like, Orban, Trump, AFD and the like who all have close ties with Putin.

It is extremely worrying.
