Wonderful news that the British Museum has successfully raised £3.5m so that this unique artefact can stay here and be on public display for all to enjoy.
Very few items remain from Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon's marriage. As a history lover I am delighted that the beautiful Tudor Heart stays where it belongs.

I really don't see that our lives are much enhanced by this acquisition.

Oh Grantanow, you are a very naughty poster.

What a beautiful object! Somehow I didn’t know about it. Just imagine being the person who found it.

Oh yes, absolutely one of the best moments of their life, I would think.

I would have loved to have held it just for a minute. The tales it could tell !

I would have liked to have made off with it 😄

I believe it cost £3.3 million. In my opinion that could have been better spent.

Donors can spend their money as they wish.
It is not up to us to tell others where to donate to causes.

Casdon Fri 13-Feb-26 08:53:07

It was donated. Are you suggesting that people should not be allowed to donate money to a cause of their choice, that sounds very authoritarian?

It's better than it be buried it again, melting it down, or for the person who found it and the landowner to sell a part of our history to some billionaire who could hide it away from public view.

This is a unique find and the public deserves to be able to go to see it and other treasures if they wish.

Are all our lives not enhanced by something beautiful and unique?

The money to pay for it was raised from donations, so clearly a great many people don’t agree with you. I certainly don’t, I think our history is what makes us who we are and preserving it it very important to me.

To each their own but the Tudor Heart is part of our history. Very little remains from that era so a find such as this is very rare. I am delighted that it is now on display in the British Museum and I hope to be able to see it in the not too distant future. I take it you will not be going. grin

It must have been so exciting for the person who found this unique treasure and thankfully it will remain in Britain where it belongs.

Glad that this unique, beautiful artefact is staying where it belongs in our country.

Well Done.

Yes, they stayed at the castle for a few days in 1511. I don’t know how close to the castle the pendant was discovered as I believe for obvious reasons the exact location is being kept under wraps. The Birmingham detectorist and the landowner will now be very rich rich people. Good for them.

Dreadwitch Wed 11-Feb-26 17:08:02

Yes, the award from the museum that acquired it is split 50/50. In this case the award is about 3.5 million... Quite a nice pay day.

Casdon Wed 11-Feb-26 16:56:01

Well, it wasn’t far from Warwick Castle, which they were known to have visited together before it is thought the pendant was lost. Henry also visited after the divorce - who knows, that could just be coincidental though. I love stuff like this, it’s fascinating.

Nik1ta Wed 11-Feb-26 16:51:26

A beautiful item. Very strange it turned up in a field in Warwickshire, not a county known for any association with Henry or Katherine. Perhaps lost in transit.
As for the Tudors: a murderous dynasty!

I share a love of all things Tudor with some of you. I was thrilled to see this at all, but also that it is staying where it belongs. I will definitely be seeing it in a museum some day when I am able to make my visit Tudor England bucket list happen.

I’m really pleased about this too. Metal detectorists are brilliant in my opinion, they regularly turn up treasures which add to our historical knowledge and our artefact collection.

You said it , Casdon.👏👏👏

It's particularly easy to love detectorists after the McKenzie Crook and Toby Jones series.......

By the by "Small Prophets" is shaping up well on BBC2.....

Poignant. From when they were still in love.

nanna8 Wed 11-Feb-26 12:00:51

Oh they took power from my old antecedents, the Plantagenets. Nasty lot the Tudors.

flappergirl Tue 10-Feb-26 20:32:20

I'd love to know how it got to be in the field.

Gran22boys Tue 10-Feb-26 17:48:27

I wonder if there are other items buried nearby. It is a fascinating period in history. I have read a lot of Philippa Gregory’s books many of which depict that era.
