It isn’t just the blatant racism, it is the innuendo which we all recognise as racist, but when challenged the nasty perpetrator hasn’t the guts to admit his/her racist rhetoric, but denies that that is what it meant.

This is Trump’s MO he says or does something despicable and then either backtracks or denies it. Is similar to abuse inasmuch as the perpetrator does something terrible then denies it happened and gaslights the victim or backs off until the next time.
The man probably enjoys torturing those he targets, is a sadist.

Equally showing any black person as an ape is equally offensive.
There really are no possible excuses.

I am Jewish and having had family who didn’t make it after being sent to Treblinka I would find antisemitic pictures of rats or graffiti highly offensive.
As would other family members.

So having initially defended this and called for an end to "fake outrage" the White House is now claiming that although Trump was responsible for the section about fraud in the 2020 election, someone else added the video without his knowledge!!!

They would be very foolish indeed to try to dismiss Trump’s racism. That fight for all minorities is never ending, and we seem to have entered a period where people seem to think it is acceptable to say quite blatant and unacceptable racist language.

Surely you understand, Oreo, that white man Joe Biden depicted as an ape eating a banana has completely different connotations to black Barrack and Michelle Obama being portrayed as apes? It’s one of the oldest, most well known racist tropes, along with monkey noises at football matches, etc.

It does give it context, it was something supplied by a Rebublican Trump fan, it wasn’t only about Obama it about lots of Democrats.Biden was depicted as an ape, and he’s white so it’s nothing to do with race.
It’s typical that Trump would like Democrats to be portrayed as lower animals while he himself is presumably a lion, the king of the jungle.
I don’t like anything about Trump, not a single thing but this meme doesn’t mean it’s about race.

The White House initially defended the clip as an "internet meme video" and told critics to "stop the fake outrage".

and a White House official said that a staffer had "erroneously" made the post

It is common knowledge that animal imagery is used to dehumanise groups of people. Does anyone remember Gary Lineker facing major criticism for including the image of a rat in a social media post because that was linked to antisemitic symbolism. Depicting black people as apes deserves the same outrage.

He and his wife had privileged upbringings.If they had any sense they would just ignore silly animal memes, which am sure they did at the time.
There are lots of political jokes with politicians as animals, I think the cartoonist Peter Brookes did loads of them at one time.

I remember when Trump said that Mr Obama shouldn't be president as he wasn't born in the USA which was a lie. Trump bears grudges and it would seem that as soon as he saw this video, he couldn't resist sharing it as it feeds into his racist views of the Obamas.

No that's not how it goes. Historically people lighter skinned than him were kept as slaves as they were black. When he was born in some states his parents could have been locked up for miscegenation. Are you seriously suggesting the Obamas don't consider themselves black, haven't suffered prejudice all their lives? It is disingenuous to pretend they are white. Have you calculated what percentage Michelle is?
