Yet another escapee joins Reform’s home for fed up Tories, time to change the name to Conform??

Why don’t these defections trigger by-elections?

RosiesMawagain Mon 26-Jan-26 20:12:53

The Conservative Party is becoming more attractive to me with every defection of the unprincipled far right numpties.

Hear, hear!

I think flinging round racist accusations is not helpful at all. In fact those doing so seem to be much more racist than those they accuse because they look for language to support their ill founded beliefs. Too much looking for faults that don’t actually exist except in their minds. Sure way to send people away from their party and into the arms of another.

Farage said last week that a big name was coming his way. He's welcome to her.

All they needs now is Truss joining them saying that she knows how to fix the economy…

I don't know whether to 😲 or 😂

😂 I think!

nanna8 Tue 27-Jan-26 00:13:00

I reckon she will join them - if they accept her. Won’t do them much good ,though, she is a chop short on the BBQ as they say here!

Truss is the one recruit that will kill Reform but I would be very surprised too see her in Reform, far too much baggage.

So reform has become a haven for incompetent rogues and scoundrels.
Nice.

I thought that was the Labour Party?
Scandals galore, lest you forget.

You really have forgotten the behaviour of the previous government haven’t you?

I have never known such chaos in both major parties. It just shows how neither side has confidence in their parties aims and leadership, very worrying when we look at what will happen as a result. Integrity seems a thing of the very distant past,

Gracey Tue 27-Jan-26 07:16:33

MayBee70, just because the Conservative government were terrible, it doesn't let the present one, the Labour government, off the hook.
That's playground reasoning.

I am definitely in the minority and once had high hopes for Farage and Reform but no more. He’s definitely the joker in the pack. I doubt very much that he will become pm. So what will all the former conservatives do then? Self seeking bunch…..

You are not in the minority, except here on this forum! In the wider world most of the people I have met say they plan to vote Reform, and I do meet a fair number of people through playing bridge and bowls.

RosiesMawagain Tue 27-Jan-26 07:29:29

By the way, been meaning to ask, how do you manage to change your name so often?
Everyone else can only have two name changes, as far as I^^know.
You are on at least your 3rd? Or more
@ fancythat - NOT that it is anybody’s business but my own, if you leave GN and deregister to take a break, you may not revert to your previous username, so I tried to find something close enough to obviate any accusations of “new” identities etc.
Happy?

Very good point.
Each party lurches from crisis to crisis when in government.
A state of despondency all round.

ronib Tue 27-Jan-26 07:33:03

I was glad to see your comment Meandrogrog. Since bridge is quite a difficult game to play, I wonder if your companions, as intelligent people , will be prepared to vote for Farage in 3 years.
Advance Uk, under Ben Habib, is slowly getting started even though GB News has vetoed all mention of this new party.
It’s good to be reminded that there is a real world away from this forum. Made my day.

Maremia Tue 27-Jan-26 07:35:04

It's a Tory de-tox. Losing so many flawed politicians is not really a problem.
Wonder how Farage plans to keep those egos under control?
Does Reform only have room for one Alpha.

Maremia Tue 27-Jan-26 07:37:47

Advance UK and Reform, with any luck they will split the vote.

It always amuses me when people say things like this, because if that’s your experience, you can’t be meeting a wide range of people. Reform is currently polling the highest of any of the parties, but it’s still only around 25-30% of their electorate.

Casdon Tue 27-Jan-26 07:45:53

Sorry, the electorate, not their.

Maremia Tue 27-Jan-26 07:50:23

And the only polls that count are actual elections. Reform is doing well, but not sweeping the boards. And their 'staying power' is poor.

ronib Tue 27-Jan-26 07:52:29

If you want to split the vote Maremia, it would help for voters to even hear that Advance Uk is gaining support and building a structure. So advertise and campaign for Advance Uk?

One doesn’t have to look very far.

“Suella Braverman, during her tenure as UK Home Secretary and subsequently, has faced significant criticism and allegations of using racist, "dog-whistle," and inflammatory rhetoric regarding immigration, grooming gangs, and multiculturalism. Critics, including Conservative peers and human rights organizations, have argued her comments fuel division and demonize specific communities”.

I can if you wish give many, many instances of her racist hate filled rhetoric.

I worry about the division this causes in our society. You have recently had a stark example of what racists/hate filled rhetoric csn do in your country.

Would you also like examples of Farage’s foul rhetoric? The trouble would be where to begin with him.

Maremia Tue 27-Jan-26 08:21:58

Thanks for the tip ronib.

Maremia Tue 27-Jan-26 08:24:12

Yes, WhiteWave, it is fair to say that those who make racist comments, are in fact racist.

Fallingstar Tue 27-Jan-26 08:35:18

I agree that shouting racist for no good reason is not helpful, but is essential when there is good reason to call people out, and there is good reason when it comes to Braverman and Farage. That doesn’t mean that everyone who will vote reform is a racist, some won’t be, but they should be under no doubt that they are voting for a party run in the main part by racists.

Glad you are amused! I do indeed meet a wide range of people in my week, and can assure you what I say is accurate.
