Yet another escapee joins Reform’s home for fed up Tories, time to change the name to Conform??

Why don’t these defections trigger by-elections?

That’s right (I’ve just googled it). She also attended Trumps inauguration ceremony wearing a MAGA hat.

Of course she did, and that is why voters over here need to be very careful what they wish for. Farage has spent more time Stateside than he has in his own constituency. If voters don’t want the ‘going to hell in a handcart’ scenario presently playing out in the US they need to think again.

There is always a tweet.

As I wrote elsewhere, I'm buying popcorn.

^And you think this is a viable government in waiting?^
Was that addressed to me? To be clear I don't think anything of the sort. My sardonic point was that the incompetent, bungling amateur that is Farage, can now say he has politicians with experience of government in his party.

I agree these defections should trigger by-elections, but then shouldn't the same perhaps go for swapping Prime Ministers and holding general elections?

The country doesn’t decide who is the PM, that is the choice of the party in government, and I personally think that is correct - the public would vote on charisma, not on ability. I don’t understand your point about general elections, do you mean the public should decide when they should be held - that would certainly throw democracy on its head.

StoneofDestiny Mon 26-Jan-26 14:58:59

These renegade Tories are just trying to save their skins - their defection has nothing to do with principle. They should face by elections!
The irony is that the 'broken Britain' Reform bang on about is the responsibility of those who were in power for 14 years. So the failures are telling us they should be put in government to fail again in a party with a leader who supports Trump and thinks we should have a British version of ICE!
Gawd help us.

eazybee Mon 26-Jan-26 15:45:17

Another one.
Defectors are simply after another chance, prompted by self-interest not principle.
I do wonder how Farage will handle all these supposed high fliers, with far more experience and political nous than he, and all hungry for leadership.

Maremia Mon 26-Jan-26 16:00:39

Gives the Tories a chance to recruit new talent, without the failed taint of Johnson.

Maremia Mon 26-Jan-26 16:02:07

I think he will pretend to welcome them, while plotting how curb their enthusiasm.

Not sure I agree with you and others on this comment.

But I dont know any of them personally.
So I could be wrong.

The ones that have left to join Reform, seem a certain type, as in right of the conservatives?

Personally[i dont think a lot of people would agree with this, well not on this forum], i think the conservatives drifted so far left, that I havent recognised them since at least 2014.

I do think a lot of the voting public agree, hence the emergence of Reform, and it's current popularity.

I have said several times I am a floating voter.
And often who I vote for, gets into Parliament.
The 8% or however many of us there are, who sway, are enough in number of voters, to alter things a lot.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 26-Jan-26 16:12:07

I am surprise that Cruella hasn’t jumped ship before now, but she will find a natural home in Reform.

Her racism will go down well.

Oh! SB is an intelligent woman, she must see something in it or why else would she join Reform?

She’s on the right of the Conservatives so will be more at home in Reform. She also will see, being intelligent that it will be another ten years or more before the Conservatives get themselves in gear again and Reform are doing well in the polls.

Oreo Mon 26-Jan-26 16:17:40

I don’t see that she’s a racist at all, why would she be? If she wants to curtail immigration, and illegal immigration in particular then most of the country would be behind her.

Well, a person can be against uncontrolled immigration and not be a racist, but in the same vein a person can be against uncontrolled immigration and be a racist.
I would put good money on Suella falling into the latter category. Just a hunch based upon some pretty racist remarks she made in the HoC.

Oreo Mon 26-Jan-26 16:28:52

Since she is of Asian ethnicity who is she racist against?

Supposedly she said ( with her head on Farages shoulder;yuk) I feel as if I’ve come home…

'Racism' doesn't just cover white people being racist about non white people. It exists between all people of sorts of ethnicities and shades of yellow to black.

I seem to recall that people in the UK used to be racist about the Irish. White on white...

With respect, Oreo, but I do sometimes wonder if you are just naive...

Her ethnicity is of no account it is her language and behaviour which is relative to whether she is racist or not.

Oreo Mon 26-Jan-26 16:44:47

The more Tories defect to Reform the more certain it becomes they will be the next government which is why all the infighting in Labour has to stop right now.

There’s no respect MaizieD so let’s drop the pretence shall we.
What Braverman said was about Pakistani men and the culture around grooming gangs.
What she missed out was just the word ‘some’.

Oreo Mon 26-Jan-26 16:51:29

Labelling every Tom Dick and Harry as racist now is getting ridiculous. It ranks alongside the use of fascist, toxic and narcissistic.

Graphite Mon 26-Jan-26 17:05:51

I’ve long thought that Zia Yusuf is Farage’s stooge.

I couldn’t see ZY in the audience at today’s welcome for Braverman.

Anything to do with this tweet and the one I posted upthread?

Awkward.

Casdon Mon 26-Jan-26 17:12:40

That’s interesting Galaxy. Maybe he in his turn will defect to the further right Ben Habib party, which I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten the name of.

Meanwhile centrist Tories have launched a new initiative to try to gather back the disaffected.

My natural political home is right of centre.

These people are only joining Reform as they think they have a chance of winning the next election.

With these Traitors leaving, the Conservative Party can rebuild itself.

I wouldnt bet on the Tories rebuiding anything, Reform is building momentum , its not what I want to see but with Starmer making such a hash out of PM its hardly surprising. Farage is building a team with actual political experience, we might not like it but we really should see it as a credible threat and not dismiss it as some are doing

I do not want a Reform influenced government but I fear we are going to get one, a move to the left with the Labour party is going to make it more likely.
