.....about NATO soldiers in Afghanistan on his 'Truth Social'.

But too late. What has been said cannot be unsaid and what has been heard cannot be unheard.

You’re right Easybee it is reported that a private message from King Charles brought about Trump’s backtracking. I find this far more likely than him taking the slightest bit of notice of Starmer.

foxie48 Sun 25-Jan-26 12:21:16

It was reported that Starmer had spoken to him again and told him how angry he'd made us. Let's at least give Starmer credit when it's due.

Flippin2 Sun 25-Jan-26 12:17:22

Last thing he wants is for the King's visit to be cancelled

Fallingstar Sun 25-Jan-26 12:14:59

So many people say that this menace doesn’t have a filter and so will say something absurd, insulting, and damaging without considering the consequences, as if we should then make allowances for this. But this man is the president of a superpower not just a bloke down the pub who shoots his mouth off, so if he does this he certainly shouldn’t be the former and the world would feel much safer if he was the latter.

Casdon Sun 25-Jan-26 12:01:55

I agree too regarding distracting from the Epstein Files. His actions don’t seem to be impressing Americans any more than they are the rest of us though, so he is weakening his defences constantly. I really don’t think he is capable of understanding the potential consequences of anything he does.

eazybee Sun 25-Jan-26 11:24:47

It has been suggested that King Charles contacted Trump. If it is true I would think he would take more notice of him than of Starmer.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 25-Jan-26 10:11:28

foxie, I agree absolutely with your comments about the Epstein files. All of the latest bluster is about ensuring that no one is talking about files relating to the exploits around the late Mr Epstein:
and look it's worked!
He'll need another cunning plan, of course, soon, but I'm sure he will think of something. Maybe the film " Melania", coming out next week ,will be useful.

Allira Sun 25-Jan-26 10:10:24

All of this is keeping the Epstein files off the front page
Yes

I don't think I've ever loathed anyone as much as I loathe Trump, the ignorant pig.

foxie48 Sun 25-Jan-26 09:53:34

All of this is keeping the Epstein files off the front page, only 2% of heavily redacted files have been released so far, when will the rest be released? Trump is a master of the media, it is his greatest achievement and because he has absolutely zero empathy for anyone, all of this anger towards him will roll off him as "fuss about nothing." He hasn't apologised, he's just made a different statement that contradicts what he said before, classic Trump!

Whitewavemark2 Sun 25-Jan-26 09:22:10

I think the lesson we must take out of this past week, is that, the only way to deal with Trump is to stand firm and when necessary fight back.

Last Wednesday showed us how he caves in when forced.

Carney showed us how.

eazybee Sun 25-Jan-26 06:57:14

Trump is uncouth and ill-bred, and totally unfitted for high office. Ruthless disposal of his opponents and a sycophantic family and entourage who live off him protect him from forthright criticism , but America holds responsibility for allowing this sort of bullyboy system, 'might is right', to develop.

He’ll deny he ever said it as he often does with other things. He seems to forget that everything is recorded for posterity! He has now praised the British soldiers but made no mention of the other NATO troops.

Well, who would have thought it.. almost an apology..

As near as we will get, apparently Starmer phoned him to tell him of our national anger at the remarks.

Good on Starmer. Praise where it's due.

That statement isn't an apology. We need an unequivocal apology and it should be on Fox News, prime time, not on his own social media. The original statement was on Fox News and the viewers of that dreadful channel should hear his retraction.

It’s the nearest Trump has ever got to apologising for anything so Starmer deserves a lot of credit for the way he handles Trump.

Just how can his wife and family stand by silently supporting him.
They are as culpable as him by their silence.
He is sick and should be treated as such.

Power and money

Very unfair to his wife and children, they can’t answer for him.

Some of his children and other family members have key roles in his administration.

TACO- Trump always chickens out, is not new. He's bombastic and has no filter. Trump making fake news statements is not new. I think he does so tactically, purposefully and strategically to achieve his own aims. He probably has a belief that if you say something often enough there will always be some/enough people who will think there's truth in what he's saying. Plus he has a strong hold over much of the right wing media who are more than willing to repeat over and over Trump's words and statements. When Trump says things maybe he comes to believe what he has said is true also- he's surrounded himself by supporters and supplicants whoo are more than willing to buy in and embolden Trump.

Trump is not known for making apologies- sadly, I doubt there will he will issue any meaningful apology on this matter.

The man stood on a gravesite of a fallen solider on our countries most hallowed ground and gave a thumbs up. He has called soldiers losers. He has stripped away their healthcare by allowing the VA to be gutted by DOGE.

He doesn't care about anyone. I think he actually believes his lies sadly.

Casdon Sat 24-Jan-26 19:21:39

His mask is off now, isn’t it, Europeans see him for what he is. I don’t think it will be possible for him to recover the lost ground, not that it will bother him I’m sure.

BlueBelle Sat 24-Jan-26 18:52:22

Perhaps he ll say sorry on his death bed, then again perhaps not
I d love to read a psychologist s report on him and his brain (if anyone ever finds one between the orange ears)
